Beloved husband, father, and grandfather Richard B. Pixton, age 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 22, 2015 in Arlington, VA surrounded by family.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, June 4, 1932, he was the second of five sons born to Seth and Ruth Pixton. His growing up years were spent in and around Salt Lake City and were filled with many adventures. He bonded early with his older brother, Charles, just 13 months his senior, and they quickly became inseparable. Younger brothers Robert, Paul, and Thomas followed in time and the five boys became a formidable basketball team with the average height being 6"6'.

He graduated from East High School and subsequently attended University of Utah majoring in chemistry. He postponed his college education during the Korean conflict and served two years in the Army in Korea and Japan. He did not speak often of his military service but his deep patriotism was evident throughout his life.

Upon returning from Korea he served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Northwestern States. During his missionary service, he first met his future wife Faye Ann Johnson.

Following his missionary service, he completed his college education at the University of Utah earning a BA in music, having switched majors after his military service. He taught middle school and high school music for a time.

He married Faye Ann Johnson in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on June 29, 1959. They were married for nearly 56 years before her passing on June 7, 2015. Together they made family the focus of their efforts and went about influencing for good and creating memories.

He was a talented musician and enjoyed sharing his love of music with family and friends. He played multiple instruments, had a beautiful baritone voice, and a penchant for the dramatic. During his life he directed, composed, arranged, sang, played, wrote, and produced hundreds of musical/dramatic endeavors that were shared within his community, church, and family. His legacy of music blessed many along life's journey and will continue to do so for years to come.

With a growing family, he determined the need to identify a different career path in order to better provide for them. He had a distinguished career with the U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management, which eventually took the family to settle in Lakewood, CO where they lived for 30 years, raising four children along the way. He was a life-time active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in a variety of lay positions over the years.

He is survived by his four children: Mark Pixton (Robbi) of Cenntenial, CO; Steven Pixton (Marva) of Tomball, TX; Rebecca South (Alan) of Falls Church, VA and Jeffrey Pixton (Tina) of Barboursville, VA; brothers Paul Pixton of Orem, Utah and Robert Pixton of Albuqureque, NM; 17 beloved grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters.

In addition to his parents and loving wife, he is predeceased in death by brothers Charles Pixton and Thomas Pixton. Interment with military honors Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper, VA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the LDS Church Humanitarian Fund, 50 East North Temple St., Floor 7, Salt Lake City, UT 84150-0007.
