October 30, 1954 ~ October 1, 2025

Born in: West Hempstead, New York
Resided in: Vienna, Virginia

Richard Hanna, 70, of Northern Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on October 30, 1954, in Long Island, New York, Richard was the cherished son of Awad and Jasmine Hanna, whose roots trace back to Italy and Palestine. He grew up with his siblings, Rose and Johnny, and from a young age, displayed a natural gift for athletics, music, and connecting with people.

In 1977, Richard married his high school sweetheart, Ann, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, laughter, and resilience. Just four months after their wedding, they made their home in Northern Virginia, where Richard began his remarkable 45-year career at Savel Foods. A dedicated and award-winning sales professional, he was admired for his loyalty, work ethic, and genuine care for his customers and colleagues.

Above all, Richard’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted father to his three sons, Richie Jr., Nick, and Chris, and a doting grandfather to his five grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He was a guiding presence, a role model, and an exceptional dad whose love for his family was unmatched.

Richard was a true self-made man—handy, resourceful, and talented in countless ways. Whether on the baseball field, playing his piano, or lending a helping hand, he gave his all and inspired those around him. He touched countless lives with his warmth, generosity, and quiet strength.

Richard’s legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply, the friendships he cherished, and the many lives he influenced throughout his journey. His memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know and love him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ann; his sons Richie Jr., Nick, and Chris; his five grandchildren; his siblings Rose and Johnny; and so many other close family members who looked up to him and will continue to honor his memory.

    • My heart is with you and your family, Ann. Everything said about Richard in your comments was absolutely true. He was a great guy, a wonderful father, and a cherished friend. I know his loss is huge to you and your family, and it’s also huge to those who knew and loved him.

  2. “You will be deeply missed. You’ve left behind a beautiful family who carries your love, kindness, and strength within them. Your legacy will live on through them, and the memories you created together will forever be cherished.”

  4. My condolences to the Hanna family. Rich, you are already missed. We were all blessed to have had you in our lives.

  5. Where to begin about Ritchie but here goes. He was one of my beloved “neighbors” friend. Always funny and was loved by all. We always told Ann that she should be nominated for sainthood. Everyday “his life was over” his favorite phrase which always cracked us all up because he was always in a great mood. Truly one of a kind and I will miss him. Thanks for the wonderful memories.
    Love you friend, Joni

  6. Richard was my one and only brother-in-law who will be remembered mostly for his generosity and kindness to his immediate and extended family. Whenever I visited, he made sure I enjoyed the best Middle Eastern cuisine and that I had a memorable experience. Through the years, it was a pleasure to see his playful side with his children and gand-children. May his family and friends treasure those fond memories they hold most dear. With Love and Comfort, Sue

  7. Heaven has gained an angel in Richard, who will be as vigilant there as he was on earth in caring for his dear wife Ann and beautiful family. May he rest in peace after fighting such a brave fight. With much love and our deepest sympathies, Jeanne and Jim

  13. The first thing I would say about Richie is that he was full of light, life, love and laughter. He brought so much joy and love to all of my family. I am eternally grateful for the gift of his and Ann’s friendship. I now imagine him shining brightly somewhere else and bringing smiles and laughter to those around him. Perhaps a piano bar in Heaven! My heart and prayers go out to Ann and the entire family. With love and condolences, John Goodwin
