Richard D. McKay (Rick), 61, White House photography editor and newspaper photojournalist, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015, at home in Vienna, Va., surrounded by his family. McKay had battled non-Hodgkins lymphoma for several years. He was born in Detroit, MI, June 1, 1954 to John and Florence Mcay and grew up in Clawson. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a BA in Journalism and worked as a newspaper photographer before coming to USA Today as one of the original photography editors. He joined the staff of Cox Newspapers Washington Bureau in 1984 where he served as photographer and photo editor until 2009 when he joined the staff of Pete Souza, President Obama's photographer.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carol McKay, and daughter Alexandra (Ally) and son Nicholas and brother William J. (Paulette) McKay of Apollo Beach, Florida,

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 21st at 5:30 PM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 2589 Chain Bridge Road, in Vienna, followed by a reception.

Visitation will be at 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
