Robert Lee Thompson Jr. age 101 of Vienna, Virginia passed away on Wednesday July 17th, 2024.
He was born in Bluefield West Virginia on November 4th, 1922. He was the son of the late Robert L. Thompson and Regina Brown of Roanoke, Virginia. Robert, known as Bob, grew up in Roanoke, Virginia and served in the army during World War II. When he came back from the war he met and married Mary Ellen Shobe, the love of his life, on February 15th, 1948 in Dayton, Virginia.
They then moved to Charlottesville, Virginia where he attended UVA and received his masters in mathematics education. Bob and Mary started a family in Charlottesville, Virginia and welcomed into the world Robert C Thompson, Regina E Salta, Douglas A Thompson and Donna L O’Hara. They then moved to Vienna, Virginia in August 1960. In 1963 Steven B Thompson was born. They were Vienna residents for over 64 years and chose this small town of Vienna to raise their 5 children. Bob taught in Fairfax County schools for over 20 years and with his quick wit and dedication, he made learning math enjoyable and fun.
Bob is survived by his sister, Hazel Thompson, his 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Bob is proceeded in death by Mary Ellen Thompson and Charlie Thompson. Robert’s loving spirit and giving heart will be greatly missed. Those who knew and loved him know that he is reunited with his loving wife Mary.
