Robert Samuel Everett (Bob), a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and proud American, passed away on August 15, 2026. He was 94.

Those who knew him will remember his strength of character, his stories, and the unmistakable presence he brought into a room.

Bob was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine, son of the late Elimore (Cloney) Everett and Samuel L. Everett. Bob and family moved to Waterbury, Connecticut where he grew up with his five brothers and two sisters. It was as a boy in Waterbury that Bob began his life long love of horses, eventually raising and training his own quarter horses, and showing them with his daughter Karen.

Service to his country became one of the defining tenets of Bob’s life. On March 29, 1949, at just 17 years old, he joined the United States Air Force.

Bob would then spend the next quarter century in military service.  During the Korean War, Bob served in Japan, flew on reconnaissance missions and was stationed for a time at Misawa Air Base in northern Japan.

After leaving the Air Force, he returned home to Waterbury, where he married Corrine Delevieleuse in 1956. He subsequently joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam in 1968 where he was stationed in Saigon. Over the course of his career his postings took him to Berlin, Germany, Ankara, Turkey, Goose Bay in Labrador, Canada as well as posts in Indiana, Texas, and Washington, D.C.

Bob and Corrine embraced the challenge of moving from military post to post while raising five children until her untimely death at just 43 years old.

In October 1975, after 26 years, Chief Warrant Officer Everett retired from the armed forces. Bob went on to hold several important telecommunications positions in the Department of Defense before retiring from civil service after 20 years.

Bob wed his beloved Susan in 1978 and they were married for 47 years. Together they found a mutual passion for antiques. What began as a hobby became something more when they opened an antique shop of their own. Bob developed a talent for refinishing the pieces they found and was often sought out to refinish pieces for others. Bob was also an antique car enthusiast and an avid model military airplane collector. His collection numbered in the many hundreds. Whatever Bob endeavored he did it with full commitment and the utmost competence.

Above all, Bob was a family man. Through the years, Bob was a father figure to many and source of guidance, wisdom, and stability to nearly everyone in his life. His influence and legacy will continue through his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and extended family and friends and in the lessons, traditions, and memories he leaves behind.

He is survived by his wife Susan, children Daniel, Deedra and, son from his first marriage, John. He is also survived by his brothers Samuel Everett, David Everett and Donald Everett. He is predeceased by his brothers Keith Everett and Kendall (Skip) Everett, sisters Gayle Corbo and Carol Barth and, his children Michael, Thomas, Barbara and Karen.

From humble beginnings to becoming a decorated war veteran to building a life of prosperity, he will be remembered for the way he lived: with determination and hard work, and an enduring love for country and family.

He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church in Reston, Virginia on October 9 at 2 pm.

Bob will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on November 2.
