U.S. Navy (Ret.) (Age 84)



Roger Alan Nichols of Vienna, VA died on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Fairfax Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Mary Nichols

and devoted father of Lucy Nichols and Barbara (Brent) Forrest. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Eleanor Nichols and Tucker Forrest,

as well as his cousins and dear friends.



CDR Nichols served his Country in the United States Navy for 35 years, spanning both enlisted and Officer ranks.



He was a longtime resident of the Town of Vienna, VA where he was a member of Vienna Presbyterian Church and volunteered at Wolftrap.

He was a student and teacher of Canton Wing Chun Kung Fu, earning his Black Sash at the age of 80. Roger Nichols loved teaching martial arts,

especially to the children. He continued teaching Kung Fu until shortly before his death.



Friends and family are invited to a memorial service for Roger Nichols at Vienna Presbyterian Church, 124 Park Street, Vienna, VA on Tuesday, July 23 at 11:00 AM.

  1. Roger, I didn’t know you long enough, but You were probably the closest thing to a Grandfather that I have ever had. At first you scared the heck out of me, but very quickly I became so grateful that you were there to take me under your wing, nit pick me consistently until you were happy that I understood what you wanted, and give me your shoulder to cry on (as long as I didn’t actually cry on it). You understood the challenges I had not only as the only woman in the class, but even outside the class as a single mom. You took time to encourage me, help me and make me a better person. I hope your spirit pays us a visit from time to keep us on track. Si-Hing, I wish you fair winds and following seas.
