Ronald Hunt

April 24, 1943 – November 28, 2022

Ronald, “Ron” Hunt, 79, of Sterling Virginia, passed away unexpectedly Nov 28, 2022.

He was born on April 24, 1943, in Belvoir, Virginia.

Ron is proceeded in death, by his parents Rev. Everett C. & Carmen Hunt, his sister, Verna Thrasher (Jim), brothers, Vernon Hunt (Rhetta), Donald Hunt (Weltha), and Dwayne Hunt (Lois)

Ron was never married, nor had children of his own, but he adored his many nieces and nephews. Jimmy Thrasher (LuAnn), Vicki Thrasher, Paula Chadwick, Steve Hunt, Bryan Hunt (Suzy), Pam Royals (John), Paula Nichols (Dennis). He also loved visiting with his great nieces and nephews, T.J. (Jen), Jeremy, Sophie, Melanie (Jim), Jesse (Nicole) and he also has many great-great nieces and nephews that he loved very much! He was a very loving Uncle WoWo, as they all call him. He will be greatly missed by them all.

Ron graduated from Valley High School in Lonaconing, Maryland. He was very involved in sports during his school years. Shortly after graduating, Ron entered the U.S. Army, where he served in Korea during the Korean War from 1962-1965. He was stationed in Fort Gordon, Georgia and Fort Dix, New Jersey. After the Army Ron was a Public Relations Manager with Trans World Airlines and moved onto various other jobs in and around the airline industry. Ron finished his working years as a Quality Control Inspector with Thrasher Construction Company until his retirement in 2010.

Ron loved his Washington sports teams, but more than anything, he loved Nascar. He never missed watching a Nascar race, whether on TV or in person. He watched every show about it before and after the race itself!

Ron loved hanging out with his longtime friends, Jim and Lina Birch. And his special Dover Downs buddies, Jim and Di, Charlie and Nancy, Barry and Lynn, Ed and Chris and Derrick. You can find them all, most weekends, causing good trouble around Dover Downs. He was well liked and will be very missed by everyone there.

  4. My earliest recollection of my Uncle Ron was in the mid sixties when he was in the Army and he came to visit us in Beirut Lebanon. He loved his sports and Nascar. I did not see much of him after my father died, his older brother, but we talked every once in awhile by phone.
He was liked by all and will be missed. Rest in Peace Uncle Ron. You are now with the rest of your family.

    Steve

  5. I had the pleasure of growing up on Nanterry circle in Vienna with the Thrasher family being our next door neighbors. That means that I knew Uncle Ronnie at a very young age. He was always so friendly and energetic. Ronnie loved being a part of his families daily routine. I would see him out washing Pugs car, mowing the lawn for Jim and interacting with his nieces and nephew. He never passed up a chance to wave, smile and shout a “hey there”. He was the kind of uncle everybody wanted in their life. I will have my memories of this kind sweet soul.

  6. Ronnie was truly one of the kindest gentleman we have had the pleasure of knowing. My wife Chris and I shared many a fine time together with Ronnie and our mutual friends at Dover Downs. Ronnie loved the NASCAR races and discussing his beloved Washington sports teams. Enjoyed many a meal together especially the crabs at Sambo’s and JP’s. Ronnie made us refreshing cocktails during our pre-dinner get togethers. Most of all, we will miss Ronnie’s smiling and warm demeanor. Miss you buddy! Love, Ed and Chris Sutor.

  7. I have known Ron, WoWo, all of my life. We grew up together in the same community.
From an early age to his home-going, faith was a driving force in his life.
Ron was a man of dignity, grace, humor and principle. Always thoughtful, gentle, congenial, courteous and respectful. He was a confidant and friend who elevated your self worth when talking with you.
His was a life well lived, so, ” well done good and faithful servant.”
To the family and his closest friends, my deepest condolences.

    Rev. Dr. J. Blaine Blubaugh

  8. I am so shocked especially because I am learning of Ron’s passing so late. We met 36 years ago at United Airlines when he was our fueling supervisor at BP. We remained friends for over 36 years and that wonderful man was always there for me. I often say he was like a second dad to me. My deepest condolences to his friends and family. I will miss him so much. RIP my dear friend. ????

  9. Am just now learning of Ronnie’s passing. We were honored to meet and see him often at Dover Downs. Always a smile and a hug. Our friendship was much too brief. Such a dear, kind man…may you rest in peace.

  10. Ronny was a good friend of mine for the past 50 years; I used to to and visit with him often. The last time I paid a visit, we sat in Ron’s living room and talked about old days are we always do. We also talked about health issues, Ronny would often tell me what a wonderful physical condition he was in. After my last visit I was getting ready to drop by and see Ron again, I called with no answer. Then I called back and his recorder was full, very unusual. I later received the news that had lost my very good friend and brother. RIP Buddy, clean up those Angel feathers that you shed in Heaven, I have other friends up their who might have an allergic reaction!
