Roy Martin / Announcer and Program director served WFAX radio station for more than 42 years. In 1995, he was recognized by the National Religious Broadcasters as a nominee for the association’s annual Distinguished Service Award. Though listeners know Roy’s voice, as program director, he is also responsible for scheduling the broadcasts and assuring the correct programs were aired for each date. A lifelong Virginian, Roy majored in journalism at Washington and Lee University. Roy joined WFAX in 1958 when the station featured a popular music format. During his years. As Program Director Roy met many of the famous politicians, celebrities and actors of our time. Roy was a wonderful archivist. Who filed and indexed the details of every radio show that the station broadcast during his tenure.
Roy lived with his wife Jennifer in Northern Virginia. He was a devoted husband for 59 years. Roy and Jennifer loved to travel. They had an especially wonderful vacation in Europe. Roy later made a film of their many adventures.
He was an accomplished amateur filmmaker whose works have won awards from local and national film societies.
Roy served in the US Army in Washington DC during his time in the Military. He served as an assistant to the chaplain, coordinating religious services for the soldiers.
Roy had many friends, especially those in his neighborhood. He had the smooth Radio Announcer Voice. That could charm anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.
