November 22, 1921 - July 14, 2018
He was a World War II veteran having served in the US Army 346th Ordnance Depot Company,
Ninth Army in Europe from 1942 to 1946.
Russell was the eldest son of the late C. Arthur and Edna Mae (Fritter) Thompson of
Vienna, Va. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Melvin Thompson.. He is survived by a brother.
Dallas Lee Thompson and sister, Lucille Marie Cable; four nieces, Aileen Elizabeth O'Donnell (Joe),
Linda Lee Thompson, Karen Elizabeth Burke and Rachel Ann Johnson as well as many members of
his extended family and his longtime friend and neighbor, Addison Hurst (Mona).
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 23rd at the Money & King Funeral Home,
171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, Va., beginning at 10:00 AM where a funeral service will follow at
11:00 AM. Interment Flint Hill Cemetery in Oakton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may
be made to the Hamilton Safety Center, Hamilton, Va. The online guestbook is available at

Russell was a nice, kind, and humorous man. If you were in his company it wouldn’t take long before he would have you smiling and laughing every time. In later years he would often visit his aging cousin Skeeter Thompson (my father) which was much appreciated by Skeeter and family. Rest in Peace Russell.

I have so many good memories of Uncle Russell it would be hard to recount them all. Uncle Russell was humorous and intelligent. He was slow to judge and quick to be kind. I can still remember him putting on his hat, overcoat, and rubber shoe covers on his way to work, with his mind already there and a quick smile to Grandma before he. Rusell loved living things.
About 10 years ago I asked him if he had a Christmas tree. He said no, so I bought him a small one. it was a little rosemary bush shaped like a tree. So, every year I bought a bigger live tree as a standing joke between myself my kids and Russell. We would celebrate his birthday and put up the tree.
The last living tree was a Blue Spruce with a 500lb root ball. He said that was as much as he could handle by himself. Next year I bought a small artificial tree and that sufficed! Much Love from Rachel you will be dearly missed.
