Sally Piotrowski was born on February 5th, 1953 in Detroit, MI to Dick and Liz Bannister. She grew up and graduated from high school in Birmingham, Michigan in 1971. Coming from a musical family, she loved singing, and toured Europe while a high school junior as a member of the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp International Choir. Despite serious long-term health challenges, she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University.

Sally met her husband Michael in college and they resided in several places in the U.S. while he served in the Air Force, finally settling in Fairfax, VA where they raised their two sons, David and Daniel, and called home for over 30 years. Sally was devoted to her family, her church, and her community, always supporting those in need by volunteering in women’s and homeless ministries. She continued her interest in choral music by participating in the Asaph Ensemble, performing at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow and was also an active member of the Barcroft Bible Church Choir for 20 years. Sally was also an avowed nature lover, always praising even the smallest of God’s creations.

Sally passed away on September 21st, 2024, due to complications from an inoperable brain tumor. She is preceded in death by her parents and older sister Beth Bannister. Sally is survived by her husband of 46 years, Michael Piotrowski, of Vienna, Virginia, her sister Susan Yamaura (Ichiro) of Tochigi, Japan and sons David (Megan) Piotrowski of San Diego, California, and Daniel (Janet) Piotrowski of Bel Air, Maryland, and three grandchildren, Reagan, Benjamin and Quinn Piotrowski. Also surviving are nephew Shigeru (Kayoko) Yamaura, grandnephew Hideki Yamaura, cousins Rod and Guy Bannister, David and Jack Sanders, Janie Sanders Bean, their families, and other distant relatives.
