Peggy & Family,I worked with SAM for years at DIA and I will miss him dearly. I last saw him a few years ago when he retired and he just hugged me and smiled – That is the SAM CRAWFORD I hold in my heart. Please know that God will heal your hearts & souls during this time of your loss. Keep the faith and always celebrate SAM’s time here with us. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Katina Mattingly
To all the Crawford family , Over the 30 some years I knew Sam at DIA, he was always one I could trust to help solve problems, not create them. I could go to Sam for answers and cooperation. He worked hard to get the best information out there for the sake of national security. We talked many times about what each of us would do in retirement. I am sad his was cut short. Please accept the sympathies of both myself and my husband, Jack Greenwood, two long time colleagues at DIA from Arlington Hall to the DIAC days.
Dear Peggy, Phil and I send our deepest sympathy to you and your family. We are out of town, but are there with you in spirit. May all of your wonderful memories together bring you comfort. Love, Judy Circle 1011

We will always hold the fond memories in our hearts of the Family times we shared through the years. God Bless You All The Snider Family
Dear Crawford Family, It was with great sadness that I learned of Sam’s passing. Sam was my boss for 10 years at DIA. He was a great boss, mentor and collegue. He will be sorely missed.
I worked directly and indirectly with Sam from 1978 until I retired in 2006. I had contact with him virtually every day–if not work related, then to say “How are you?” I respected his work ethic. His longevity and abilities in his trade craft at DIA gave him recognition as “Mr. Defense Industries.” Sam was my primary mentor after my transfer to his office. Later in my tenure, when we weren’t directly working with each other, I would regularly seek his advice, which he so expertly and willingly gave. Sam was an office and agency icon and represents an era of analysts who were instrumental in growing DIA to become a major force in intelligence analysis for our country. He will never be forgotten by those who knew him at DIA. Please accept my most sincere condolences.
Dear Peggy and Family, My fondest memory of Sam is the two of you coming to take me home from Holy Cross Hospital in the middle of the night. During this time I was very ill and Sam kept telling me if ever I need anything to please call, I did and the two of you were there for me. Sam and I worked together for 15 years, everyday he was a vast sea of knowledge and taught me most everything I know about analysis and database. There is no way I would be half the person I am now had he not taken me under his wing, he always treated me as more that a tech and pushed me in other directions to better myself. It was a great pleasure to see him at our Christmas party last year; he hugged me, gave me one of those big bright Sam smiles, and asked about my family. I have a picture of him at my desk from one of the chili cook-off with that smile, when things get rough I look at that picture and hear him tell me that it will be better on Monday. I will miss him terribly. Doreen A. Imlay and Family
Dear Peggy and Family, Sam was a great colleague, friend and mentor. He was the bedrock of defense industries analysis for many years, and America owes him a large debt of gratitude for all that he did in defense of the nation. Sam will be sorely missed by all of us who have worked with him over the years. Please accept our condolences.
Peggy & Family: Sam was my first mentor when I became an analyst for DIA, that was over 17 years ago. He was so well respected and loved for the many years of dedicated service he gave to the country and by the many analysts who learned from him. I loved his stories. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Dear Crawford Family, I met Sam in the mid 80s when I started out as an Economist. Any time we needed assistance from Defense Industry Sam was the man to go to and he always delivered. Sam was so friendly and would always say hi when passing by and if he had time would stop and always have a great story to tell you. He was one of a kind and has been greatly missed. My deepest sympathy. Denis Katchmeric
Dear Peggy and Family, I had so hoped you would have a longer retirement together. Sam has been a mentor and inspiration for so many people down through the years. Take comfort in knowing that he is alive in the hearts of all those who remember him.
Dear Peggy and Family, I was fortunate to carpool with Sam for 10 years to Arlington Hall Station. This not only saved me money, but also gave me a lot of help in understanding how management thought as I was in the promotion chain. I also worked with his Division in the DIAC and saw how he was able to use his expertise both in subject matter and with guiding analysts to make the best use of their time. Sam always seemed to have so much energy, even with a hectic schedule. I will always remember him fondly. Carol Pervi
Peggy and Family We’re sorry to hear of Sam’s passing. Hope you can find some peace with fond memories.
To Aunt Peggy,Leslie, Sammy, Ceci, Matt, Jenn, Justen and Linzy, please know how sorry I was to hear of the passing of Uncle Sam. I will always cherish the memories of Family gatherings;ie- camping and holiday get togethers. Uncle Sam was always willing to sit down with the children and teach us about rocks and fossils and how to be safe in the woods. I loved his laugh! He will be missed !! Love to the family <3 Tracey, Russ and Nathan
Dear Family, My deepest sympathies for your loss. Sam was my first boss at DIA nearly 30 years ago and taught me so much about analysis, professionalism, and work ethic. Sam touched so many lives at DIA. I was honored to be at Sam’s retirement, where I remember hugging him and thanking him for his service. I will always remember Sam with sincere fondness. Mike Carman
