Sergio Paul Visaggio
June 30, 1964 ~ April 7, 2013
Sergio Paul Visaggio, 48, passed away suddenly at his home in Vienna, Virginia on April 7, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Marcia Visaggio (nee Medvetz) and their wonderful sons, John, Christopher, and Nicholas. He also leaves behind his adoring parents, Vito and Paola Visaggio, his three sisters and their spouses, Roberta (Bob), Maria (Pierre), and Christina (Duane), and his nephews, Brian, Pierre, Andre and Maxwell. He will also be missed by his dear in-laws, Tom and Dorothy Medvetz, and brother-in-law and wife Scott and Thea Medvetz and their son, Stefan. Lastly he leaves behind his large and loving Visaggio and Koblischek families of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Serge was born in Naples, Italy on June 30, 1964 on his parents' second wedding anniversary. His father Vito served in the US Navy so the family had the opportunity to live in many wonderful places including Japan, where Serge loved to catch frogs in the rice paddies as a young boy. The family settled in Montgomery Village, MD and eventually, Serge went on to receive his business degree at the University of Delaware and his M.B.A. from the University of Maryland. He worked at NYNEX, America Online (AOL) as a fledgling company, Northern Virginia Community College and later at National Wildlife Federation.
Serge had an amazing sense of humor and made people laugh to the point of tears throughout his life. He was an incredible cook and took pride in preparing his specialties for the family. He loved taking wood walks with his sons, treasured time with his wife, and planning wonderful family vacations to places like Costa Rica and Italy.
Always a very humble, good-hearted and generous man. Serge was inspired by his abundant blessings and by his Catholic faith to serve others less fortunate than him. He volunteered countless hours for OAR (Opportunities, Alternatives, and Resources), Habitat for Humanity, Organization for Autism Research, ESL, CCD and various other organizations. He coached many of his sons' sports teams and was sure to be found helping or organizing fun, family activities that his neighbors in Wayside could enjoy.
Sergio Paul Visaggio was a strong, loving human being and family man... and "to love is to receive a glimpse of heaven"

Maybe one day I will be able to write down my fond memories of Sergio and his entire family, but right now it is way too soon for me I am however, inspired to hug and hold tight my kids and grandkids today and remind myself (through this tragic loss),to never take a single day with loved ones for granted. May GOD rest dear young Sergio, and eventually bring a little, Peace-Love & Understanding to this very close knit, kind, caring, devoted, loving family.

I met Serge on the soccer when I was a VYS equipment coordinator and fellow soccer coach. I was always impressed by his positive attitude and his dedication to the boys on his team through the years. As a firm believer in leading by example, Serge has left a proud legacy for his children as he made a difference in the lives of so many and the hearts that he touched. It was a pleasure sharing laughs on the side lines. While he may be missed, he will not be forgotten. There is a wide community holding his family in prayer.
To the beautiful Visaggio family….our hearts go out to you. Sergio was an amazing father. I remember his smile, his kindness, and his complete joy when he was with his boys at VBCC. We send our love. Susan, John and Christopher Brackett

I am so sorry to hear about the unbelievably tragic loss of my best friend’s brother Sergio. I grew up with Maria and her family over the last 30 years. They were like a second family to me for a long time. My mom worked with Maria and Serg’s mom at Hecht’s. I am so sorry for the Visaggio family to have to suffer a loss so great as Sergio. My heart goes out to all of you. Much love, Jackie.

Visaggios, One cannot be friends with the Vito and Paola Visaggio family without also knowing and falling in love with their children, their in-laws, their grandsons, and all the extended family members that we have met during the 35 + years of our friendship. We have attended their graduations, weddings, baby showers, and holiday parties throughout the years and we have noticed that the Visaggio family members have an enormous, huge, gigantic love for each other and a wonderful enthusiasm for life. We watched and admired as Sergio grew into a successful man, a loving husband, and a devoted father. It was such a joy to observe the love between Sergio and Marcia with their sons John, Christopher and Nicohlas. It is difficult to imagine a world without Sergio, but he has left us all with the gift of wonderful memories and the inspiration to love and give more to others. We send our love to all the Visaggio family members and friends.
I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved Sergio. I have known him since 2008 as a soccer coach for VYS house league. Serge was a fine gentleman, a good sportsman, with big heart and a big smile. I really enjoyed his positive attitude around the kids and on the soccer field. The Vienne Soccer community will deeply miss him. Please accept my deepest condolences to you and your family.
Roberta and Family, I want to send my condolences to you and your family at this difficult time. I cam remember the times at SVHS where Sergio and I worked the scoreboard together during the SVHS football games. Sergio used to crack me up all the time, very funny in a stupid way. I am thinking of the funny voices we would talk to each other with and laughing right now. Sincerely, Ed Bizub

I pray that our Lord embrace you all and give you comfort and peace as you mourn your loss. Marie (Felix) Bercaw, Class of 1983, SVHS

It is with a huge sense of shock and sadness that we learned today of Sergio’s passing. Having known him as a young boy and then an incredibly gracious, warm, and loving adult, we know that many join his family in sharing their deep sorrow. May he rest in peace. May so many wonderful memories help to sustain his family and his friends. With love, Ying-Ying
How can anything in this situation make anyone feel better, yet I feel that in someway that you the (family) must know just how much Sergio has affected all of us that knew him in such a positive way.I met Sergio in Jr.High MVJH where he was a funny little guy always laughing and making jokes about everything,he was fun to be around but if we were up to something I would get in trouble not Sergio,he was to small and cute and the teachers always feel for that.although I think it was him 95 percent of the time.Sergio was a little fire plug in sports,I played baseball with him and I do believe to this day he holds the record in Montgomery Village for the smallest catcher ever to play in the league! But Sergio made up for it in many ways. It was almost like the dunking machine clown he would talk to all of the batters and I would feel for the guy who struck out! as the years went bye we went to SV High School and well Sergio (The Serg) came into his own with his warm heart and smile, everyone just wanted to be around him.Sergio Its time to be the life of the party once again in heaven! You have a special gift, the gift to make people smile and laugh.God Bless the Visaggio Family I know this is painful but know that Sergio had a calling Jesus Christ has called him and I know that Jesus smiled when he greeted Your wonderful son Sergio…..God Bless Us All! Frankie Schmidt
Marcia, We are deeply sorry to hear about Sergio. Our thoughts are with you and the children.
I loved my friend He went away from me There is nothing more to say The poem ends Soft as it began I loved my friend Langston Hughes He was beautiful and among the best of men. Together with Marcia, he created a beautiful family. An example to us all. An example that will move us to serve and help to heal our broken hearts. My God hold your family and may your faith sustain you. You are loved. Julia
We are very sorry for your loss You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We wish the family strength and peace. May happy memories carry you through this sorrowful time. Carmine, Susan, Angelica & Nick Petito (friends of Roberta)
I am absolutely stunned by this news. My prayers and thoughts are with you all. So very sorry for our loss.
Dear Visaggio family, Our family sends our deepest condolences to all of you. I heard of Sergio’s calling just yesterday when I happened to check up on old friends that I have known during my childhood (elementary school)yrs as a “Navy brat”. I remember just a handful of friends that I grew up with including my years in Millington, TN. Along with my brother Eddie, Serge and Roberta were one of our good friends…I honestly think the Lord and Sergio wanted us to know…. This just goes to show that he had such charisma and influence at such a young age. I remember him as a small, highly intelligent kid with great humor and an outgoing personality. It’s incredible to hear how he evolved into the great, compassionate man he was..Our US Navy families moved on to other cities and we’ve since lost touch..but we still remember your wonderful family..May the Lord bless and comfort all of you…we send our love. Sincerely, Dr.Ephraim Tabornal and family Eddie Tabornal and family San Diego, CA
Serge was always very funny and very witty. I’m so sorry for his family’s loss.
I worked with Serge as a camp counselor for two summers. He was great with the children, extremely popular with his colleagues, and a good friend. One day at the lunch table we shared what was literally the longest laugh of my life – for days afterwards all we had to do was make eye contact, to break into uncontrollable, embarrassing giggles in front of whomever happened to be present. Serge touched a lot of lives, made a lot of people happy, and in my humble opinion was taken from this world much too soon.
