Stephen Dwight Burket, 75, died at Fair Oaks Hospital on Aug. 6 from COVID, despite having all available vaccinations.
Steve was born in Altoona, PA, to William Anthon Burket and Edna Irene Ketner Burket. He grew up in Geeseytown, PA, and graduated from Hollidaysburg Area High School, class of 1965. He received an Associate degree in Agricultural Business from the Pennsylvania State University at the Altoona campus, and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics at University Park in 1971, where he met his wife Janice. They were married in 1971 and were fortunate to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Steve went on to obtain a Master of Science degree in Resource Economics from Penn State. He came to the D.C. area in 1974 to work for the International Trade Commission (ITC) as a Trade Analyst, retiring after 31 years. He also managed the Credit Union at the ITC for many years.
Steve was a model train enthusiast, having a layout at home and setting up a layout at the ITC for many Christmases. Having grown up on a farm, he also helped his friend Fred and his family on the Warren family farm in Middleburg, VA. Steve hunted from childhood, and was invariably successful. He supported his sons in Boy Scouts of America as they attained the rank of Eagle.
Steve is survived and will be missed by his wife Janice, sons Jacob and William, granddaughters Sary and Piper, and sister, Jane E. Kutz, and her family, of Hollidaysburg, PA.

There are so many it is hard to choose. But, whenever I see model trains, I think of Steve. Maureen Bryant
I’m so saddened to hear of Steve’s passing. We worked and carpooled together for so many years. He was one in a million….funny, kind, caring, and always the first to lend a hand. My thoughts and prayers are with Jan, Will, and Jake. Steve will forever be missed.

Steve and I were classmates at Penn State and he informed me about a job opening at the ITC in 1974. I also rode in his carpool with Cindy and Maureen for many years. He was a great person and always willing to help or give advice. My sincere condolences to Jan, Will, Jake and families.
What a sad loss for Steve to pass away. He and I were coworkers for 30 years at the USITC. He was a kind, generous and hard working guy. What a great wife Jan has been and Steve so proud of his sons and grandkids. His many years as ITC credit union manager helped many employees and Steve a good person who tried to help others. Goodbye dear friend.
I may not have known Steve very long, i knew a man of few words, with a heart of gold. Dependable and always willing to help. Knowledgeable in many areas and a strong mind. He will truly be missed. Thank you for all your help Steve.
So sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. We are so grateful for all the years you both came to the family reunion and shared the day with us. He will be missed. Steph and I loved his train setup at the house it was amazing.
We want to express our sincere condolences to Jan, Jake, Will & their families. We remember enjoying our labor day gatherings with families and friends. Our annual visit when Steve came for his PA. hunting trips. We ask that God comfort you as only he can. God be with you. Clayton & Drenda Snare
Steve was always smiling and offering encouragement. A fine individual in every way. Sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
