After a three year struggle with leukemia, Steve passed away peacefully at home. He is survived by his wife, Betty Hoblitzell, stepson Matthew Aizcorbe and his wife Christina, grandsons Ari and Alex Aizcorbe, brother Robert Lemons and sister Marcia Banks.
Steve was born in Peoria, Illinois to parents Clara and Emory Lemons. He lived there with his parents and older brother Bob and sister Marcia until he was 7 years old, when they moved to Phoenix AZ to join his maternal grandparents . His father died shortly after they relocated. Steve spent his school years in Phoenix, including getting his BS and MS in Economics at Arizona State University.
He moved to Northern Virginia in 1966 to work at the CIA as an economic analyst. His career was interrupted by a call up to the Air National Guard after the Pueblo incident in 1968. He was stationed in Korea for a year and then returned to McLean to resume his job at the CIA until 1976 when he moved to Tokyo to study Japanese for 2 years. On his return to the US, he had a brief stint with a consulting firm but soon returned to the Agency where he worked until his retirement in 2004.
In 1988 he met his soon to be wife while playing racquetball at a weekly drop-in session. They married on April 29, 1989, and moved to a house in Vienna VA where they lived with Matt until he moved out in 2005 and a succession of canine companions (Taco, Zoe and Molly).
Steve continued to love hiking, biking and kayaking until his health started failing in 2022. He still enjoyed reading the newspaper, news magazines and history books until the very end

The world lost a wonderful person. We will miss our discussions.
