Susie Mae Peffer Owens, age 98, passed away on August 14, 2015.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, Lester Owens; her mother, Margaret Finney Peffer and her father, Andrew Corance Peffer; Susie is survived by her sister, Emma Gerber; her children, Barbara Dahl Pratt (Ernie), Vann J Furlan Callahan (Pat) and Randy Owens (Beckie). She was grandmother to 25, great grandmother to 54 and great great grandmother to 37.
She was born on July 31, 1917 in Frankfort, KY. Susie was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served in the Washington D.C. Temple for 24 years. She worked many years as a bookkeeper and accountant in the Washington D.C. area, while living in Vienna, VA for 45 years. At the age 69, Susie served as a Church missionary in Spokane, WA for one year. Susie's life passion was her genealogy work. After 70 years of research, she, along with her sister Emma, published a family history that spans 300 years. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Susie relocated to Ohio in 2010, from Gambrills, MD, to live with her daughter, Vann.
Viewing will be on Wednesday, August 19th at 10:00 a.m. with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 735 North Revere Road, Akron, OH 44333. Burial will be on Friday, August 21 at 1:00 p.m. at National Memorial Park, 7400 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042 in the family plot in Camelia Section, Lot 55. When my husband and I moved to VA, Susie was one of the first to welcome us at church. We have many found memories of Susie.
