Thomas Kennedy Latimer (Age 83)

Died peacefully in his bed on March 5, 2017, of congestive heart failure. He was born in Washington, D.C., on March 6, 1933, to Thomas and Catherine Latimer of Silver Spring, Md. Shortly after his marriage to Jacqueline Reinke in 1962, he moved to Vienna, Va., where he lived the rest of his life.

Tom was a career U.S. government employee, working in the CIA, the DOD, the White House, and ultimately in the House of Representatives as Staff Director for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Tom was known as a person who was completely committed to performing his duties without letting any political leanings influence his interactions with members of both Republican and Democratic administrations, thus gaining respect from members of both parties.

Retiring at the age of 55, Tom had many years to relax and enjoy watching his children complete college and raise their own families. He also enjoyed playing golf with longtime friends and was able to travel often with his wife on cruises in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans as well as tour Europe.

Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jacqueline (Jackie) Marie Latimer, his daughter, Maureen Terese Brody, his son, Matthew Thomas Latimer, and Tom's six grandchildren, Mary Brody, Paul Latimer, John Brody, Maria Latimer, Joseph Brody, and Anne Latimer. He is also survived by his sister, Cecelia (Dee) Latimer.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Vienna, Va., at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017. There will be visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. A reception will be held at Tom and Jackie's house immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, Tom's family requests that you consider making a donation to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
