Thomas Richards Coolidge (b. January 29, 1934 to Helen Isaacs Coolidge and Harold Jefferson Coolidge) died in McLean, VA on Tuesday September 22, 2026 at the age of 92. Born in Boston, MA, he and his family moved to Washington D.C. at a young age. He attended St. Albans, The Groton School, and Harvard University (Class of ’55), before serving two years as an artillery officer in the 2nd Armor “Hell on Wheels” Division. He then attended Harvard Law School and joined Carter, Ledyard, & Milburn in New York City, becoming their youngest partner to date by creating their international law practice. He married Susan Lane Freiberg on May 8, 1965, and were happily married for 61 years. He then proceeded to work in a variety of industries, culminating in the creation of his biotechnology business, BioNebraska. BioNebraska created a commercially viable way to produce the GLP-1 molecule (the basis for today’s Ozempic) in the mid 1990s. He lost his daughter, Laura, to complications from childbirth on February 14, 1999. He resided in Manhattan and at his beloved farm in Falls Village, CT. He later resided in Litchfield, CT and McLean, VA. Endearingly known as Pater, he is survived by his wife Susan, daughter Anne, son Thomas, and seven grandchildren. Pater will always be remembered by his loved ones for his joyful baritone voice, his boundless curiosity, and his love for Utopia on Squam Lake. He will be buried at the family graveyard at Monticello.
