Rest in peace my dear friend. I am so grateful to have had you as a friend.
While I only met Vern about two years ago playing music I found him to be a great guy with similar interests to mine (guitars and amps and Virginia Tech!), the rest of the guys were a little worried if he would accept me but we became great friends and I will miss him so much…there is an empty chair at the jam sessions that can’t be filled. I cherish his friendship and am glad I had the chance to call him my friend.
Vern my “Brother from another Mother” and close friend for over thirty years will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace my Friend!
I’ll miss you Vern. I’m glad I got to know you and that you were part of my life, even if it was so may years ago. Rest in peace.
May God be with you. You will be missed a great deal.
I am so sorry to learn of Vern’s passing — he was a fellow workmate and dear friend of mine at USGS — I will always remember Vern’s excellent sense of humor and his willingness to help out and mentor younger workers. Vern will be truly missed by so many of us who were blessed to have had the good fortune to have known him.
Vern was one of the best workers I ever stole from Ed Like to come work for me. He was a good friend and an outstanding worker. I always chuckled about some of his “mountain man and bachelor” ways. He liked to talk about motorcycles and the corvette he owned in high school, which he was going to buy one day, til he found out it would now cost $300,000 (or something like that – his number, not mine). And then there was that little dog I think he brought back from Viet Nam. He didn’t care much about material things, evidenced by that old van he drove. He just loved sitting in that river, drinking his brew. I hadn’t seen him in years, but it seems like we had lunch just yesterday. Peggy and I were deeply saddened to hear of his passing. You’ll be missed old buddy. Hope you watch over some of us down here when you get settled up there – help them get their accounting books in order as well. Joe P.
I remember Vern from the mid to late 70’s when he was dating my older sister. We had many good conversations at the kitchen table while he patiently waited for her to get ready. He was a great guy, and I have fond memories of him. Condolences to you, Beth and Ed, and all who knew him.
