Sadowski, Vernon, Lt Col, USAF (Ret.), age 96,
of Vienna, VA passed away on May 19, 2017, surrounded by his loved ones and his beloved wife of 70 years, Philomena Sadowski. Born on March 14, 1921, in St Paul MN, he was the son of the late Leopold and Marianna Sadowski. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerome and Luke Sadowski and nephew David Sadowski.
Lt. Colonel Sadowski was a highly decorated veteran serving as lead bombardier with the Mighty 8th Air Force in the 93rd Bomb Group's 330th Heavy Bombardment Squadron. He served in WWII in the North Africa Campaign and the European Theatre as well as serving in the Korean War. He was awarded many medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Vernon and Philomena were faithful members of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Vienna for 57 years. He is survived by his son Patrick Sadowski and his wife Rosa of Indianapolis, IN, daughter Karen Sadowski, daughter Carol Chaikin and her husband Mark of Vienna, VA, Gary Sadowski and his wife Deann of Savannah, GA, John Sadowski and his wife Carrie, of Vienna, VA and Michael Sadowski of Centreville, VA, 7 grandchildren, Kevin Chaikin and his wife Sheida of Reston, VA, Lauren Chaikin of San Diego, CA, Brian Sadowski of Los Angeles, CA, Annie Sadowski of Macon, GA, Regan Sadowski of Savannah, GA, and Joshua Sadowski of Indianapolis, IN and Christine and 3 great-grandchildren, Hanna, Aiden Chaikin and Austin Chaikin, niece, Diane Baran and her Husband Gary of Woodbury, MN.
The family will receive friends and acquaintances at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 8601 Wolftrap Rd., Vienna, VA 22182 on Thursday, June 1 from 10 11 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM. The family invites all attendees to a luncheon and a celebration of the life of Vernon Sadowski in the DeSales Hall next to the church immediately following the mass. Interment, with full honors at Arlington National Cemetery, will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.
