April 1, 1954 ~ January 20, 2025

Born in: Washington, DC
Resided in: Fairfax, Virginia

Vicki Peterson Cordes, 70, of Fairfax, Virginia, went to rest in the arms of her heavenly Father on January 20th. After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April 2024 she fought bravely for nine months, undergoing every treatment Johns Hopkins could offer her.

Vicki was born on April 1, 1954 to Carl Raymond Peterson and Emma Pauline Mullis, of Worcester, Massachusetts and Harmony, North Carolina respectively. She was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland.

She received a BA in Psychology from Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland, as well as an MS in Management of Information Technology from the University of Virginia.

Vicki took pride in her work for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington DC, where she was employed for 39 years.

She lovingly raised two daughters, Erica Suzanne and Natalie Christine.

Vicki enjoyed traveling. In addition to spending regular time at her beloved Eastern Shore, she visited the Pacific Northwest, Canada, Israel, Turkey, Greece, Rome, and England.

A lover of the arts, she particularly enjoyed attending performances at the Kennedy Center, and ushered at George Mason Center for the Arts. She also nurtured a passion for ballroom dancing, with her favorite dance being the international rumba.

Vicki delighted in simple pleasures like good food, time with family, and evening walks through her neighborhood.

She explored several religious philosophies throughout her life which combined to make her a uniquely spiritual person.

Vicki was thrilled to become a grandmother for the first time in 2020 and then again in 2022. She made frequent trips to visit her grandchildren and doted on them from afar.

Vicki is survived by her daughters Erica Cordes Vacare, Natalie Cordes Burgdorf, and her grandchildren Samuel and Isaac Burgdorf.

A remembrance will be held at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Ave W, Vienna, VA 22180, on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 5 to 8 pm. A graveside service will be held at Winthrop Friends Meeting in Harmony, NC, date and time to be determined.

  1. The Owners and Staff at the Money and King Funeral Home, wish to express our sincere sympathy to you. It is our hope that we may be able to make a difficult time more bearable. Please feel free to call us anytime as we are always available to you.

    Bob Gallagher

  2. I remember your mom fondly from high school and enjoyed seeing her at reunions and occasionally bumping into her at the Kennedy Center. Sorry she is gone so soon. Julie Saulnier

  3. I am sorry for your loss. I had no idea that Vicki was ill because I had not seen her at Elegant Dancing since 2023 due to my own diagnosis of cancer in January 2024. (I stopped attending the dances that month.) She and I would chat at the Sunday afternoon dances and at the nighttime dances. I will remember her fondly.

  4. Natalie and Erica I am so sorry to learn of your mom’s passing I only met her briefly and as you know and we were to never meet again in person. I appreciated her satisfaction in my work with getting her situated comfortably in her home and allowing Natalie and her family to relocate to be near her at the end. Please let me know if you need anything. She was very passionate in her love of her family and her desire to beat the cancer. I am very sorry for your loss. All the best Donna Hall
