Violeta Elizabeth Montero Oliva

violeta montero oliva

April 30, 1962 ~ April 5, 2026

We are saddened to announce the passing of Violeta Montero Oliva on Sunday, April 5, 2026, in Fairfax, Virginia. Violeta was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

She was born on April 30, 1962, in Piura, Peru, to Rosa Edith Oliva and Manuel Maria Montero.

Violeta was the fifth of seven sisters and was known for her artistic skills and creativity. She was a graphic designer for several years, working for several advertising agencies in Peru, including McCann Erickson, as well as the Peruvian government. Among family and close friends, she was known for her kindness, generosity, and love of politics. She was the beloved aunt who would take her nieces and nephews to amusement parks on a whim or the one you could count on to come home with treats and sweets to share. She was a bright light for our family and her siblings, and we felt so loved in her presence.

Violeta loved nature, taking long hikes and walks with her grandbabies, Ziggy, a German Shepherd and Shar Pei mix, and Benito “Benny”, a beagle. Her love of nature was rivaled by her love of the beach and warm weather that reminded her of childhood memories growing up in Piura.

Importantly, she was a loving and doting mother. She is survived by her two daughters, Lily (39) and Gaby Gomez (33), whom she raised with tremendous love, care, patience, and understanding. We remember fondly the countless moments when she was our biggest cheerleader, our confidant, our best friend, our guiding light, and our rock. She showed more strength and resilience than most do in a lifetime, overcoming tough obstacles and never letting her faith or her devotion to her daughters waver. We carry her love, wisdom, and optimism with us always – and we are better because of her.

Violeta was diagnosed with pulmonary disease in 2016. Though she was given a five-year prognosis, she fought with extraordinary strength and gave us ten more years by her side. She continued that fight until her very last breath. She was a warrior, and we cherish every joyful memory, every laugh, every hug, and every word of encouragement she shared with us.

Above all, we will remember Violetita for the greatest gift she gave us: time together – time she fought so hard to give, and time we will carry with us always. Her memory will live in our hearts, now and forever.

We love you, Violetita, Vayoyo, Bubito, Mami Mami. Que Dios te reciba en su santa gloria y te guarde por siempre en su paz eterna.
