Born in:
Szczecin, Poland
Resided in:
Vienna, Virginia
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Voyt B. Maik, age 71, on May 28, 2026, at his home in Vienna, Virginia.
Voyt was born on September 23, 1954, in Szczecin, Poland, the youngest of four siblings to the late Wacław Stanisław Maik and Hanna Buchowska Maik. He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his siblings Barbara Michalewich, Tomasz Maik, and Pawel Maik.
Voyt proudly served with honor in the United States Army from December 1985 until July 2006, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. He served as an Infantryman, Interrogator, and spent 14 years as a Human Intelligence Collector with tours in Kuwait, Iraq, Bosnia, Ukraine, and Afghanistan. He continued his dedicated service to his country as a Department of Defense civilian, Supervisory Special Agent, until September 2025. A man of few words, Voyt let his actions speak for themselves — in uniform, in service, and in life. In his later years he found joy and discipline in the practice of karate.
Voyt is survived by his children: Sebastian Maik, Tereza Maik, and Steven Maik. He is also lovingly survived by his three grandchildren, Eva (2), Emma (4), and Ellis (4 months), who will carry his spirit forward, and by his beloved dog Romy, who was his faithful companion.

I came to know Voyt through our karate class. He was an experienced karateka. He was a tough karateka and trained hard but the most importantly despite his rough appearance he was kind, sweet, and extremely helpful to other students in class sharing his long experience with others. He was loved by everyone. I (we) will miss him very much. He took a piece of our karate class with him. May he rest in peace!
