Webster (Web) Charles Brown, 97, long time resident of Vienna, Virginia, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024, in Charlottesville, VA. Mr. Brown was born on May 27, 1926 in Fort Dodge, lowa, the son of Henry Fonda Brown and Elin Sophia Lind Brown. He was predeceased by an infant sister, Georgia Elaine Brown. He was also predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Frances Everett Brown, two sons: David W. Brown and Steven E. Brown. He is survived by two children, Paul F. Brown (Laura) and Martha F. Somers (Robert) and by 11 grandchildren: Stephanie Brown Richards (Justin), Jennifer Brown White (Justin), Christopher Paul Brown, Kaitlyn Elliott (Alyssa), Kristin Kane (Jason), Kelsey Brown, and Kyle Brown (Rhiannon), Britni Brown O’Donnell (Alan), and Jeremy Brown (Melissa), and Katharine Somers Manning (Andrew), and John R. Somers (Ryan Carey). In addition, he is survived by 13 great-grandchildren, known by all of them as their beloved Papa.

Following his high school graduation, Mr. Brown was a Navy veteran of World WarII(1943-1947), attended lowa State University from 1947-1951 majoring in mechanical engineering. In 1951 he moved to Virginia to begin employment with RCA in Norfolk, Virginia where he met his wife, Frances, through life-long mutual friends Ben and Jean Smith in 1953.

He married the love of his life, Frances E. Brown of Bon Air, Virginia on July 17, 1954, and they started a family the following year. He had a long career in the engineering profession first in Norfolk, Virginia, then Boston, Massachusetts, and finally in Northern Virginia where he resided until almost the end of his life. Web always considered the love of his family and devotion to Frances to be his greatest achievement.

Web will always be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, his love of family, and easy going nature. He was well liked and respected for just being himself and never compromising his strong Midwestern values and integrity. He will be greatly missed.

The family is grateful for the compassionate care he received in his final months with Hospice of Central Piedmont, especially his nurse, Terry, and the entire staff including volunteers. He was well loved and respected wherever he was throughout his life.
