William Elias Mouzavires

william mouzavires
William Elias Mouzavires passed away peacefully with his family at his side Saturday, July 9, 2022. Billy, Moose, Dad, and Grandpa are some of the names he went by, the last two being his favorites. Born April 20, 1935, in N.Y., N.Y. to Mary and Elias Mouzavires, he quickly proved he could make it there, playing with the Peewee Rangers in Madison Square Garden, and then realized bigger dreams, graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in civil engineering and an ice hockey national championship; then he moved to D.C. and showed he really could make it anywhere, earning a law degree at Georgetown University night school while working as a patent office legal examiner, and starting a successful intellectual property law career. In 1960 he married Elizabeth C. O’Brien and had two children, Crosby and Farrell, before their divorce. Ultimately, Bill started his own legal firm with his second wife and partner, Jane, with whom he had a daughter, Christina. Together, the dynamic duo of Jane and Bill raised three children and helped many inventors realize the fruits of their labors. He enjoyed tennis, golf, sailing, and traveling during most of his life, with some of his favorite places being Jamaica, Britain, Mt. Riga, and Florida. So enjoyable were his trips to the Sunshine State, he eventually bought a home in Bradenton Beach where he flew south for the winter. Later, as he aged, he turned more to crossword puzzles, watching sports, and listening to music (sometimes while conducting if he had anything resembling a baton). A cancer survivor for over twenty years, he finally passed due to its complications, and is survived by his wife, Jane Mouzavires, their daughter, Christina Mouzavires, her family, their son, Crosby Elias Mouzavires, and his family. Farrell Mouzavires preceded him in death in April 2013.

Visitation and Funeral services will be held at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, Virginia, 22180. The visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, July 27th, 2022, and the funeral service will be at 11 am on Thursday, July 28, 2022.

  1. Mr. Moose was truly a special soul. His passion for life could be seen and felt with his radiant smile! Over the years, he provided so much encouragement and advice that I appreciated and valued so much. He will be missed but his memory lives on in those that knew him. Sending the Mouzavires family much love and prayers of comfort.

  2. So many good holiday memories with Bill and the Mouzaveries family…our Christmas dinners were legendary. Bill was a generous host and an amazing guy. He’ll be missed.
