On Thursday, June 11, 2009 in Reston, Va. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Mary in 1998. Survived by his son Peter J. Winders and daughter, Martha Helgerson, grandchildren, Peter J. Winders, Jr., Katherine Helgerson and Paul Helgerson and great-grandchildren, Claire and Ian Helgerson.

I worked for his doctor years ago and looked forward to each visit with Mr. and Mrs. Winders. 20 years ago they gave me a gift for my desk at work, it sits there still and when asked about it, I am happy to tell people how wonderful the ones that gave it to me were. We were all blessed to have known both. I know he missed his Mary and like her, he will be missed.
