  7. Bill and I were colleagues and friends in the USIA Office of General Counsel. He was an excellent attorney — steady and sure and precise. But his greatest contribution to the team came from his warmth, gentleness, and humorous personality. His quiet kindness seeped into the entire team and made us all the better, both as attorneys and as persons. With respect, affection, and gratitude, Alberto Mora

  8. Anita, I was unaware of Bill’s death until late last night. I am shocked to hear the sad news and offer my condolences to you and your entire family. I’m glad that we were able to talk at the last DB reunion. Don

  12. Bill was a fine lawyer and a friend to many, but what I remember best and admired most about him was the love he exhibited every day for his dear Anita and their wonderful sons and families. At USIA, he regaled us with stories of family trips and of camping and fishing with his grandchildren, and I always admired his ability to keep his priorities straight and put things in perspective. We are all shocked and saddened to learn of his untimely death; he will be missed.

  13. Anita, as were others, we were shocked and saddened to learn of Bill’s death. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy; we will keep you and yours in our prayers. We are happy that we could spend some time with both of you at our last DuBourg Reunion and look forward to seeing you whenever you come to St. Louis.

  14. I am so sad. I took time from my busy schedule to sit by my pond and recall many of the special moments I spent with Bill. We go back to kindegarden. He was a leader and an imp. He was creative and mentally stimulating. He was a lasting friend. I remember the cork ball and basketball games. We ran the neighborhood. I loved the verbal debates. I recalled his smile and excitement when he first dated you Anita. He knew after his first date you would be his wife. Bill will be missed but never forgotten. Anita, your pain is felt and I send my love to you and your family in this sad time. John Burkel
