Born in:
Baltimore, Maryland
Resided in:
Vienna, Virginia
William Gilmore Scott passed away, September 3, 2024, at Fairfax Inova Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia. Born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1933, Bill attended Sparrows Point High School. He was drafted into the Army out of high school and was stationed at Ft Bliss in El Paso, Texas, and the Savannah River Project in Aiken, South Carolina. He considered his army years as some of his most formative and was always grateful for the friendships and encouragement he received as part of that experience.
After his military service, Bill worked for Bethlehem Steel Shipbuilding in Baltimore and attended Johns Hopkins University night school where he acquired a BS and then MS in Operations Research. His work at Bethlehem Steel and his Operations Research degree led him to a consulting job with Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) and a move to Silver Spring, Maryland. Bill and a colleague soon after left PMM to form their own consulting firm, Kilkeary Scott and Associates (KSAI), which they managed for 17 years until the firm was acquired by a large consulting firm in northern Virginia.
Bill loved two things passionately: Baltimore football (first the Colts, then the Ravens), and music. He had season tickets to the Colts for 23 years until they left Baltimore for Indianapolis, and he never missed a game. He and his friends often made road trips to cities where the Baltimore teams played. Football was in his blood.
But music was in Bill’s heart. From his early days, Bill loved music and eagerly sought live music throughout his life, everywhere he lived. He loved Busby Berkeley movies and the music of the 30s and 40s. He knew the words and tunes of all the music of this period and always sang along when watching TV or listening to the radio. He loved jazz music and the folk music of the 60s exemplified by early Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, and he attended the jazz and folk festivals in Newport, Rhode Island and New Orleans. In later years, he developed an appreciation for and love of opera, as well as the Austin country rock music.
Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years Paula Reeves Scott, his daughter Carol Scott Edwards and her husband Greg and their two children, Dawson and Olivia, all of Ellicott City, Maryland; and his son, Kristopher Dylan Scott and his wife Kristie and their two children, Wyatt and Jack, all of Clarksburg, Maryland.
