William (Bill) S. Maguire born July 12,1943, passed away Saturday May 25, 2024 at the age of 81 in his home, surrounded by family.

Bill was born in Lafayette, Indiana to William W. and Jean C. Maguire. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Mary Francis. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne M. Maguire; his three children: Katie (John) Olmstead, Billy, and Kevin (Ashley); his nine grandchildren: Aidan, Logan, Riley; Zoe, Maddie, Will; Harper, Greer, Kiernan and his sister Sarah Maguire Stoll. He is also survived by his wonderful brothers and sisters-in-laws and their families.

Bill, though born in Indiana, was raised in Bethesda, MD. He graduated from Georgetown Preparatory School in 1961 and then The University of Scranton, where he played basketball, in 1965. It was during his time at the U of Scranton that he met the love of his life, Jeanne Marie McDonough, while she was in Nursing school. They married on September 3, 1966. They then moved to Virginia where they raised their family.

Bill’s successful 46-year career in International and Retail banking began at The National Bank of Washington. He continued with Sequoia Bank and then The Bank of Georgetown until he retired in 2016.

Bill had a natural love for coaching. He coached boys and girls youth basketball and baseball teams. He continued coaching Billy and Kevin in baseball through their next levels including Vienna Majors and Babe Ruth Leagues. In addition to his love of sports, Bill was President of the University of Scranton Alumnae, Washington DC Chapter for 10 years, where he was famous for the summer barbeques. He had a gift of making everyone feel welcome.

From early on, Bill loved the beach. He began the family tradition of going to Rehoboth Beach every summer, where they would spend all day at the beach, going crabbing, playing card games, and going to the Crab Shack to eat steaming crabs before heading to the Boardwalk. Whether it was Rehoboth, Dewey, or Long Beach Island, Bill shared his love of the beach with his family, Jeanne’s family, nieces and nephews and their children. He created so many memories for all his family.

Family and friends are invited to The Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, in Vienna, VA. Visitation begins at 10:00 am and Mass at 11:00 am. 1. Bill, you were such a bright light in this world. I don’t think that I ever saw you without a big smile on your face. Everywhere you went people loved you because you showed love and respect. I wish there were many, many more people like you on this earth. We all would be so much happier. You will truly be missed. Fondly, Kathy

  2. My dear Jeanne, Katie, Kevin, Billy and your whole wonderful family….my heart breaks for you all. Bill was a shining light for all he touched. I’m sending much love., Maria Kinnane

  3. My Prep School buddy and long time friend, Bill, has gone to Heaven. So very sorry to see you go my friend. So happy I received a video call from you. Although I was in shock at the time to learn of your condition, I will forever cherish the fact that we got to say good bye and to remember the good and the crazy times we had together. Loved visiting you and Jeanne at your house when I traveled to your area from Florida. Fondly remember smoking cigars , drinking on your porch and solving all the world’s problems at the end of a long night. Love to you and Jeanne. I’ll see you in Heaven. ❤️Joe/Woody.

  4. Love you uncle bill! I loved seeing you at the beach all these years and hosting the game show with you!

  5. I love you so much Uncle Bill. I cannot believe you are gone. You had such a gift for making people feel warm, welcome, and happy. You always took such a genuine interest in everyone you loved and I hope you know how much you are loved. I will always remember our late afternoon chats on the beach and late night phone calls with Aunt Jeanne. I think about you every single day and will continue to for the rest of my life. I love you.
