  1. I worked with Bill for several years here at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. I always respected Bill’s professionalism. However, I really enjoyed listening to his old war stories and recipes for some seafood dish or other ocean delicacy. To an American Patriot, Go With God Brother, You Will Be Missed. Pete

  2. Bill was a true patriotic American. I enjoyed working w. him, hearing the many pilot stories and sharing the many lunches. We often went to lunch at a small cafe that would announce his order over the intercom by calling “Wild Bill”. Bill so enjoyed that, and would pilot swagger up to collect his lunch. He brightened Christmas each year by decorating the office with small collectible villages and towns with trains and figurines. Were all kicking ourselves for not staying in touch w. him after retirement….Bill was a friend.

  3. I did not know Col. Washburn, but I was saddened to read his obituary today. I am thankful for his many years of service to our country and wanted his family to know that there are those of us who appreciate and honor the contribution of Col. Washburn despite never having had the privilege of meeting him.

  4. I had the pleasure of taking care of Mr.Washburn. Everyday was a wonderful gift. The love he had for his family and Milly the cat.The joy In his face when he mowed the grass and when he ate seafood. All the little things we some times take for granted. I miss you!!

  5. We lived across the street from Bill and he was a frequent visitor in our repair shop..he would ride his lawn mower over and visit..he was a fine man and is greatly missed in the neighborhood.

  6. I only met Mr. Washburn a couple of times in person but I heard many fun and interesting stories about him from his daughter, Laura. Laura admired her father very much and is a fine credit to her father’s influence. I know that his entire family will miss him very much.

  7. I worked with Bill at DEP in Tampa. I enjoyed the stories he told. He was a wonderful person. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.
