Albert Jacquez passed away suddenly on August 18, 2019 while traveling to his beloved vacation home, Martha’s Vineyard. Albert was the devoted father of Alex and Evan and loving husband to his wife of 31 years, Lynn. Albert was born on December 24, 1953 in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Nogales High School, received a full scholarship to Whittier College and received his Masters in Public Administration from the Lyndon B. In 1998 he was confirmed by the US Senate to the position of Administrator of the St. Lawrence Seaway at the US Department of Transportation, serving both the Clinton and Bush Administrations. In 2013 he joined UnidosUS as Senior Director, Legislative and Political Affairs.

He was a longtime and ardent advocate for policies benefiting the Latino community. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Washington Nationals, and a constant presence at his sons’ athletic events from youth through college. He enjoyed photography and for the past 15 years captured countless moments and memories for hundreds of athletes and their families from the sidelines, courtsides and baselines.

In addition to his wife and sons, Albert is survived by his brother, Richard, sister, Katrinka and his stepbrothers Raymond and Louis Turriaga and their spouses as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

  1. I so much always enjoyed seeing and talking to Albert at so many Madison games of the years. He’d be busy taking pictures of whatever team, but he would always stop for a few minutes to talk. His photos were outstanding in any sport. Sometimes he would be so kind to share them with us at the Sun Gazette so we could use in our sports section. He never asked for anything in return. I will miss very much seeing and talking to Albert at Madison games. For so many years, his photography was the eyes of the Madison Warhawk Nation’s athletics. Dave Facinoli Sun Gazette Newspapers

  2. I had the privilege of working with Albert at UnidosUS. I learned a lot about the workings of Capitol Hill from him, and I’m proud to say we remained friends after I moved away from DC. I always looked forward to hanging out with him whenever he came to Arizona, or during the UnidosUS conferences. I will miss our chats about politics and baseball. Rest in peace AJ! My sincere condolences to Lynn, his sons and the rest of the Jacquez family. Enrique Lopezlira

  3. Dearest friend, Albert. We met in the same 5th grade class at La Seda Elementary in La Puente back in 1964 and have been friends since. You were always so smart and on top of your life. God must have needed you in His Kingdom and I’m positive we will all see each other again when we transition to our real home. My sincere, heartfelt sympathy to your wife, Lynn, your boys and you family and loved ones. Love you, my friend, Albert. Sherry (Blaylock) Gilbert-Sherman

  4. It has been my honor to know and admire Albert as a friend and colleague as he worked so hard to serve others through his leadership example at UnidosUS. He has made so many contributions to the greater community because of his concern and commitment to others! His memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew and worked with him over the years. Fred Fernandez

  5. What a life! Albert had been a mentor to me for the last six years, though I met him first in Congress in the 1990’s when he was writing laws and I was answer constituent mail as an intern and fellow. He lived the motto that a effortless life is a meaningless life; to his very last days was doing all that he could to serve his community, support his team, and give purpose and meaning to our vocation as advocates. He showed us all what it looks like when you love your job. Albert always had a story to tell and gave to others generously the benefit of his experience and life’s lessons. He made everyone around him better because of that, was always a steady presence in turbulent and stressful times, and those that got a chance to work with him now represent one element of his life’s many achievements. While I take with me many fond memories, I will miss him terribly. Particularly hearing his voice chatting with junior staff in the halls and listening to his sage advice. I remain always grateful for his friendship and support and my prayers and thoughts are with Lynn, Alex, and Evan. Eric Rodriguez
