Obituary for Alexis W Press

Alexis Wesolowsky Press, of Vienna, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 25th. She was 56 years old.

Born on March 26, 1962, Alexis was raised by her loving parents, Anthony and Anne Wesolowsky, in Rutledge, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Swarthmore High School, and received a Bachelor's Degree in French from Georgetown University. She earned an MBA from both the University of Texas at Austin and the École Supérieure de Commerce de Lyon. She went on to work in marketing at various firms, including, most recently, in the senior care space. Pursuing a passion to teach, this past summer she received a certificate in education from Old Dominion University, where she had been training to become a teacher of French and of English for Speakers of Other Languages.

A devoted mother and wife, Alexis dedicated her life to her family. After meeting her husband, Dan, through a mutual friend, the two married in 1996 and settled in Vienna. In 1998, her first child, Benjamin, was born, followed in 2001 by her daughter, Elizabeth. An amazing mother to both, she was a fixture in the communities that surrounded her family. A volunteer with the Boy Scouts, the Vienna Girls' Softball League, her children's PTAs, Wesley United Methodist Church, and the Francophone community inWashington, among many other groups, Alexis embodied a selflessness and generosity that will be remembered by all those who knew her.

Alexis is survived by her husband, Dan, their two children, Benjamin, a Junior at Princeton University, and Elizabeth, a Senior at James Madison High School; her mother, Anne Wesolowsky of Newtown Square, Pa.; her brother, Anthony Wesolowsky of Prague, Czechia; her sister, Allyson Doig of Wayne, Pa.; and Buddy, her beloved canine friend; along with a vast group of family and friends who loved her dearly.

There will be a funeral service at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vienna, Virginia, at 4PM on Tuesday, October 30th. She will be interred alongside her father following a graveside service at 1PM on October 31, at the Lawn Croft Cemetery in Marcus Hook, PA.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Northern Virginia Family Service, an organization that shares the values of family and community that Alexis so deeply prized.
