Benjamin Harvey Long

benjamin long
Benjamin Harvey Long, 69, died suddenly on Saturday, March 28, 2020. Born in Blue Hill, Maine, Ben was a Maine-er first and a Virginian second but the world is a better place for all of his travels. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Eleanor Greene and Verrill Long and his brother, Tom Long, all of Blue Hill, Maine where the air is pure, the people genuine, and the lobsters abundant.

Ben graduated from George Stevens Academy, Class of 1968, and University of Maine, Orono, Class of 1972 with a degree in Political Science but his love was the world of Public Relations. He founded Travaille Executive Search in 1984 in Connecticut and eventually brought his company to Washington where he was well respected by PR professionals nationwide.

Ben was happily married to Cheryl Hutchins, of Penobscot, for over 35 years. Together they discovered their love of Yorkies, literature, gardening, and fine wine and became Virginians. Cheryl succumbed to a long illness in 2009.

In 2011, Ben married Angeline Beverley. They had the time of their lives as Ben retired and they enjoyed family and dear, close friends in so many places. They traveled throughout the US, Europe, and the Caribbean but always back to Maine to spend time with family, amazing friends, and the Ocean. Ben is survived by two sisters-in-law, Kathy Long and Carla Hutchins all of Maine. He had become the proud GrandPa and PapPap to Madison and CJ Davis. He treasured his newfound sons, Owen Christopher and Colin Alexander Davis and two daughter-in-laws Cindi and Lisa. He leaves behind his wife, Angie, who loved his love, his smile, his honesty, his work ethic, his love of his chain saw, and his boat, the Mainely Virginia. His Pups, Murphy and Maggie, mourn his loss too.

Rest in Peace in His Eternal Love, Faithful Ben. You will be profoundly missed by so many.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I have many fond memories spending time with Ben and Tom in Blue Hill during the summer months when were kids. Even as a little guy, I remember Ben saying he wanted to be a politician and serve people. He was an amazing man and I regret not being able to spend more time with him in later years. Thankfully, he and Angie made it to Tennessee a few years ago and we caught up on our lives and reminisced about times gone by. We also met up in Bangor for dinner during his last summer there. I will always cherish those times . Rest In Peace Ben. You have a special place in my heart. ❤️ So glad you were my cousin and part of my life!

  2. We had fun being bowling teammates our first year. Ben always had something amusing to say. Condolences to all. Pam and Jim Keller

  3. Angie, Please accept my heartfelt condolences on your loss. Ben and Cheryl were dear friends from our four years at George Stevens. Some things we shared were chemistry class with Mr. Stanko, American history with Mr. Merchant, senior play, card games in senior lounge, senior French Club trip to Quebec City. During senior year we started getting friends together to celebrate birthdays, in February we had a party at my house in Sedgwick to honor Cheryl and Joan Osgood who shared the same February birthday. Later that year in the early summer some of us gathered for a celebration for those of us with summer birthdays on the rocks in East Blue Hill. After college we went our separate ways and lost touch, I regret that Ben was unable to make it to our 50th class reunion in 2018 I was looking forward to reconnecting. When you are in Maine again, I would enjoy meeting you. It is not easy to lose your spouse so suddenly, during this difficult time in the world it must be doubly hard. Take care of yourself and stay well. Leslie Astbury Hampden, Maine last@tds.net
