Betty Jane McKallip was born on August 31, 1924 in New Kensington, PA to Charles and Alma McKallip. Soon thereafter the family moved to a farm in Hubbard, OH.

Betty Jane attended nursing school at Youngstown Hospital, enrolled in the Army Cadet Nurse Corps during the Second World War, and served in a stateside military hospital. When the war was over she did both hospital nursing and private duty nursing for several years.

She met and married Clarence Henry Schiller, a dentist, and lived in Versailles, OH. They had three daughters. He joined the Army. They travelled to Fort Campbell, KY; to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii before it was a state; to Fort Meade, MD; to Aschaffenburg/Main, West Germany; and to Fort Lee, VA. They retired in nearby Petersburg, VA.

Betty Schiller was an avid gardener and was proficient in needle arts. She enjoyed her role as wife and mother and took pride in her daughters’ accomplishments. She was proud to have been a registered nurse and associated with military life.
