Evelyn Elaine Wiesnet of Oakton, Virginia, died peacefully on February 19, 2020.

She was born on July 21, 1929, in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of Esther and Francis Alfonso Jordan.

Evelyn is survived by her loving husband, Donald, her sons Andrew (Vicki) of Vashon, WA, and Peter (Linda) of Centreville, VA, and daughters Elizabeth (Will) Stettner of Herndon, VA, and Ellen Hagey of Bothell, WA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; April Stettner, Nicholas Wiesnet, Melissa Stettner, Kevin Hagey, Allison Hagey, Jackson Wiesnet, Samuel Wiesnet, and Luke Wiesnet, whom she loved and cherished dearly.

In 1951 Evelyn graduated from State University of New York College for Teachers at Buffalo. Her first teaching position was on Grand Island, NY. In 1952, she married Donald R. Wiesnet and they relocated to Arlington, VA, where Don accepted a position with the U.S. Geological Survey. In 1954, they settled in Vienna, VA, to raise their family. In the late 1960’s Evelyn returned to her first love – teaching. She accepted a position at Vienna Elementary where she taught Kindergarten. In the fall of 1986, she accepted a position as a First Grade Teacher at Flint Hill Elementary, where she stayed until her retirement in 1992.

During her 24 years in the classroom Evelyn touched the hearts and minds of hundreds of young Vienna students with her supportive and nurturing style of teaching. Evelyn’s love of teaching and serving others continued after retirement. As an active member of Vienna Presbyterian Church, Evelyn held positions of Sunday School Teacher, Circle Leader, Deacon, and Elder with a focus on teaching English as a Second Language. She often said, “Vienna Presbyterian Church has been my rock, my anchor, and my strength in times of joy, in times of worry, and in times of sorrow”.

Evelyn’s spirit will live on in many of us who were blessed with her love, lessons, and guidance.

The family will receive friends and family at Money & King Funeral Home, Vienna, VA, on March 6, 2020, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm.

Funeral service will be at Vienna Presbyterian Church, Vienna, VA on March 7, 2020, at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Vienna Presbyterian Church or Goodwin Hospice.
