Frank Moorman Lane

frank lane
Frank Moorman Lane, 83, of Vienna, VA, died peacefully and surrounded by his family on April 29 after a valiant battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Frank was born in Boston in 1938 to the late Andrew and Rosemarie Moorman Lane. He graduated from Boston College in 1959. In his college years, he sang in the Glee Club and played clarinet and saxophone in the BC band. Frank’s love of music continued throughout his life.

In 1963, he married Wilma T. Fallon, his classmate at Boston College, and they enjoyed over 58 years of marriage. They shared a common affinity for their alma mater, and embraced the Jesuit ideals of developing one’s mind, heart and soul and using one’s talents for the good of others.

He later graduated from Suffolk Law School. He served as counsel for Honeywell Information Systems, legal counsel for the General Services Administration, and later held senior positions at the Central Intelligence Agency.

Reflecting on his own college experience, Frank believed strongly in the transformative opportunities in higher education and he was extremely proud that all three of his children completed college and pursued their individual careers. Frank often expressed pride and gratitude for having a wonderful family. He enjoyed visiting with them throughout the year, and could be relied on to add humor to any situation. He was grateful that he and his family could vacation at their summer home on Cape Cod, and he enjoyed traveling the world with his wife.

He is survived by his beloved wife Wilma; his daughter Maryrose Lane Grossman and her husband Geoffrey; his son William Lane and his wife Helene Lane; his son Brian Lane; his five grandchildren, Benjamin Grossman, Aiden Grossman, Kathleen Lane, Kristina Lane and Patrick Lane; his sisters Margaret Mary Loughnane, Andrea de Mars, and Elizabeth Bradley, and his brother Andrew Lane. He was predeceased by his sister Rosemarie de Mars.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers a charitable donation be made to the Jesuit Refugee Service.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. We met the Lane Family when we first moved to Vienna in 1981. I remember how we partipated together in the Family Ministry program when Brian was 6 and our 2 sons were 5 and 2. Through the years we would see Frank and Wlima and Brian and Michael became closer when they were together at PVI. I loved talking to Frank who always seemed interested in our activities. We would talk about golf and other subjects. Last time we saw Frank was at St. Mark for a funeral and a few of us urged him to stay for the luncheon and a chance for some fellowship. We will keep you all in our prayers and hope the memories of Frank sustain you at this time. I love the choice of the songs and hope our choir will give you more comfort on Tuesday.
