Frank Sedgwick, 90, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side the morning of Friday, December 21, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma Davison Sedgwick, his son, Steve Sedgwick, daughter, Nancy (William) Monahan, and grandchildren, Alexis and Jonathan Sedgwick.
Gail Franklin Sedgwick was born on June 23, 1928 in Topeka, Kansas, the only child of Emma and John Sedgwick and the first grandchild of Sadie and Parkhurst Postlewait. Following service in the Army 1946-48, he earned his Bachelors degree from Washburn University and his Masters degree in Public Administration from George Washington University. He and Norma were married in 1954 and moved to Washington, DC where Frank’s career in the federal government included working in senior managerial positions at the Pentagon, NASA, and the Department of Agriculture. Following his retirement in 1982, Frank became a Realtor and sold residential real estate.
Frank, always interested in athletics, served as President of the Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL) 1975 to 1976 and developed the original NVSL seeding method for ranking area swim teams. Frank closely followed high school wrestling and was well known for his “Frank’s Ranks” column which was published in the local paper and his signature red sweaters. When he turned 40, Frank began training as a marathon runner, running a total of seven marathons including the Boston and Marine Corps marathons among others.
Frank enjoyed maps and traveling and was proud to have visited all 50 states. Some of his favorite trips include a train ride to Banff where he walked on a glacier, a helicopter ride in Hawaii, and trips to Switzerland, Italy, London, Paris, and Puerto Rico. Frank and Norma spent their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Bermuda.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 10, 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm at Money and King, 171 Maple Avenue W., Vienna, VA. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery at a later date.

I was fortunate to have known Gail when we were both working at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Later, our paths crossed again, when I and his daughter Nancy were in performances sponsored by the Spanish Dance Society. Gail would come backstage to congratulate us after our performances, and participate in the after-parties.
