George P. Alber
October 3, 1946 ~ August 28, 2021
George Phillip Alber was born on October 3, 1946 to the late George Alber and Harriet Hamilton in Troy, NY. George was the second child; his older sister is Marie Alber Simmons. After graduating from Lansingburgh High School in 1964, he entered Canisius College and graduated Cum Laude in 1968.
After graduating from Canisius College, George married Elizabeth Carpenter. They had 2 children Laura and George and they lived in the Glens Falls, New York area for many years. George was an avid runner competing in numerous local races. Summers were spent at “camps” in the Lake George area where George enjoyed snorkeling, tennis, and fishing with his family. George was a lifelong learner and voracious reader. He studied the history of the American West and could keep pace with many a historian.
George had a long successful career in technology. His career included executive positions in sales and customer service. He was beloved by those who worked with him and established many lifelong friendships. George spent over 27 years at General Electric before moving to an internet startup, UUNET. George was able to adapt to new challenging environments throughout his career.
George and Evelyn Spain united, fell in love, and were married in Wilmington, DE in 2003. Due to George’s employment as Vice President of Customer Service and IT Software at UUNET, George, Evelyn, and his bonus-daughter Mia moved to Centreville, VA.
Upon retirement, George became an active member in the community. He focused on three passions: engaging in a strong fellowship with his Men’s Group at Grace Covenant Church, establishing the Foundation for Eleanora R Spratt Scholarships (FERSS), and acting as Commissioner of the Fairfax County Human Rights Committee. George was honored to have been chosen as a member of the Confederate Names Task Force and he worked tirelessly to rename schools, monuments, street names and places.
George is survived by his sister Marie Simmons and her husband William, his nephew William and his wife Adrienne and their sons Kyle and Cameron and their families, his nephew Martin and his wife Gloria and their children Caden, Kayla and Alex, his niece, Audrey, and her spouse Lattie Rutkowski and their children Chelsea and Steven Pacetti.
George is also survived by his daughter Laura, her husband Ned Klingelhofer, and their three children Samantha, Jackson, and Eleanore Klingelhofer, his son George, his wife Catherine, and their two children George “Geo” Phillip Alber IV and Thompson Alber.
Finally, he survived by his loving wife Evelyn and his bonus-daughter Mia Spain, his Aunt Isabelle Jefferson, his sister-in-law Marthena Spratt, brother-in-law Ronald Spratt, his niece and nephews Ronald, Kamilah and Randell Spratt, along with a host of relatives and friends.
George loved the Lord, his family, and his community. He will be greatly missed but his legacy will never be forgotten.

George was one of the most caring individuals I’ve known. Our paths go back 18 years professionally and personally. He will be missed by many.
