Geraldine “Mickey” Buhl

Mickey Buhl was born in Washington, D.C., July 29, 1931 to Cecil V. Thompson and Margaret Harding Thompson. She was raised in the Vienna area where she lived most of her life. She met the love of her life Bill Buhl while attending Fairfax HS. They married September 25, 1948 and celebrated 59 years of marriage, prior to Bill’s passing. Together they founded the Buhl Electric Company in 1959 and worked side by side throughout their marriage, eventually creating Bill Buhl Electric that stayed in business until 2020, which Mickey continued to run.

A great athlete, she was a standout softball player for the Fairfax Rebels. Her love for softball continued as Mickey enjoyed spending her time cheering on the Softball team she and Bill sponsored and were fixtures at nearly every major Northern Virginia Softball Tournament for many years.

Later in life she picked-up golf and enjoyed playing with Bill and their friends at the Shenvalee Golf Course across the street from their home in New Market where she got her first hole-in-one. She also was an avid Bingo player and never missed a chance to join her friends in New Market at the Bingo Halls. For many years she and Bill enjoyed traveling with their friends around the US and Internationally.

Mickey is survived by her four children, Penny Ostlund (Charlie), Bill Buhl Jr., Linda Stitt (Donnie) and Margie Buhl and her 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mickey lived the past eight years with her daughter Penny and son Billy in Lake of the Woods, Va.

Mickey was loved by everyone who knew her as she was the most genuine, generous, kind, and caring person you could ever meet. She was a cancer survivor and battled Parkinson disease with courage and grace that was inspirational. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. It is said that people will come in and out of our lives, but the special ones leave their footprints on your heart; Mickey’s footprints will be forever in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
