HUGH F. YOUNG, JR.
Hugh F. Young, Jr., age 68, passed away on September 12, 2018, with his wife of 47 years and his four children by his side.
Born in Japan to Army Colonel Hugh F. Young, Sr., and Ida Virginia Young, Hugh lived in many places during his childhood. From Heidelberg, Germany, to Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the world and its vastness inspired Hugh from an early age.
In his sophomore year, Hugh’s family moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where he met his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Gayle. Northern Virginia ultimately became Hugh’s permanent home and the nexus of a multifaceted and impactful legal career.
After attending Princeton University and Georgetown Law, Hugh worked at Sperry Rand and later at the National Paint and Coatings Association. His professional “home,” however, was the Product Liability Advisory Council, where he served as president from 1993 until late 2017.
What defined Hugh, though, was not his appreciation of the larger world, or even his professional accolades. Hugh’s greatest joy was his family. Ferociously loyal and unrelentingly generous, especially with his children, Hugh relished his role as husband and patriarch. He was a passionate helper, a thoughtful adviser, and a principled teacher.
Hugh’s mind and presence were powerful—but his love was even mightier. He was a force.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Gayle Young; children Trey Young, Cameron Young, Lucy (Matt) Williams, and Lily Young; and sisters Virginia Leback and Karen Wentz.
A memorial service in honor of Hugh will be held at Money & King Funeral Home in Vienna, VA, on Saturday, September 22, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Pets for Vets in Hugh’s name.

Love to all of you–we are glad we will be seeing you soon. We had really wanted to see Uncle Hugh during this last year, but sadly it just never worked out that way. It’s nice, though too, to have our last memory of him as one full of his usual animation and robust humor. XOXO, Beth and Mark
I’m so sorry for your recent loss. My deepest condolences to your family. Death of a loved one is never easy to endure, but you don’t have to go through it alone. You can always find comfort in our God of tender mercy Jehovah, as found at 2 Corinthians 1:3,4.
I am broken hearted, I had no idea my buddy had passed. Hugh was my friend and as good a man as ever lived on this planet…he was family, his family was my family!!! I had so many great memories of Hugh and PLAC during my 8 1/2 years at The Kingsmill Resort…in addition many great dinners and events in and around the Greater DC Area. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Young family. Please know The Noonan Family loves you and will always be here for you

I am so sorry for your loss. Hugh was a pleasure to work with. When I found out of his passing, I was instantly sadden. I remember so many conferences we’d prepare for together.
I’m praying that angels of God surround and comfort you all during this time.
