John Joseph Karpovich, Jr.

john karpovich, jr.
John Joseph Karpovich, Jr., 70, passed away October 15, 2020 at INOVA Hospital in Fairfax, VA due to complications resulting from a fall. His wife of 40 years, Dianne Bona, was by his side.

Born in Fountain Springs, PA, he was the son of John J. Karpovich, Sr. and Mary Trusky Karpovich (deceased). He attended Immaculate Heart High School and Allentown College (now DeSales University).

He spent his career in the public sector in Washington, D.C. and Bangor, WA working for the U.S. Navy Publications and Printing Service. He ultimately retired from the Defense Logistics Agency after 25 years of service and numerous Meritorious Service awards.

John enjoyed golf, completing the daily crossword puzzle in record time and visiting many East Coast casinos with his mother. He was an inveterate reader, a generous friend to all, and a die-hard Washington sports fan with a great sense of humor¬ - a necessary quality most seasons. He most especially cherished his role as grandfather to Alexandra "Lexie" Linderman and Grant Olson.

He is survived by his wife, his 95 y/o father, his brother Thomas (Tom) and sister-in-law Ann, his children Lisa Linderman (Will), and Jacquelyn (Christopher Olson), and grandchildren, as well as several aunts, uncles and many other beloved family and friends.

A viewing will be held Friday, October 23 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 8601 Wolftrap Road Vienna, VA from 10-11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity, and be sure to exercise your constitutional right to vote this November. As John would say (edited for a family-friendly newspaper), “Vote the bums out!” Online condolences and fond memories of John may be offered to the family at www.moneyandking.com

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Many fond memories of golfing with John at the Knights of Columbus sponsored tournament. As well as brothers from different mothers at Fort Belvoir and Hilltop in Alexandria. Miss you brother.

  2. Sincere condolences to John’s family. He helped so many people as a federal employee and left his colleagues with many great memories.

  3. John and I along with Joe Bradley and Dan Gacek were the charter members of the infamous NPPS Rat Pack and we shared countless good times and laughs both on and off the job. John was a consummate professional and company man who had a brilliant mind, quick wit, and love of laughter. Fair winds and following seas, John

  4. John was a great friend to me on my many trips to DC and across the country supporting his projects for the printing service and DLA. He was a visionary and passionate believer in his mission and loved his country. Great times we all had and tremendous camaraderie were shared by all of his merry band of contractors and we truly made significant achievements under his leadership. An incredible man with a huge heart and passion for like. RIP my friend. Phil Phillips – CACI Inc.-Federal

  5. So sad to hear this news. John was my dad’s best friend and like an uncle to me. Many fun times these two had – sometimes too much fun and my mom,“Rosie,” as John and my dad called her, would have to go after them and bring them home. If heaven exists, I have no doubt my dad is thrilled to have his “partner” by his side – “raisin’ hell” no doubt – all in good fun, of course. Much love to all of John’s family and friends who survive him, and especially to Diane, Lisa, Jacqui, and the grandchildren.
