Karen Elizabeth Loss

karen loss
Karen E. Loss passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Fairfax INOVA Hospital after a brief confinement. She was surrounded by her family as she was welcomed home by her Heavenly Father and family, a circumstance she did not fear.

She was the beloved daughter of Kenneth D. Loss of Lewisburg, PA and the late L. Geraldine Loss; sister of Douglas R. Loss of Maryville, TN., Jo A. Saltzman of Coatesville, PA., and Susan D. Laidacker of Danville, PA; Aunt of Timothy Fargus, Jon Laidacker, Stefanos Loss and Laura Moore.

Karen was born and raised in Pennsylvania but lived for the last 20+ years in Northern Virginia. She traveled extensvely and lived her life with gusto. In recent years she battled Stage IV lung cancer, but beat the odds of survival for 6 1/2 years. She made it her calling to become a fierce advocate for funding lung cancer education and research and became a well-regarded spokesperson for that purpose.

She was loved and respected by many for her courage and support of others battling this disease-she truly believed she was living with cancer, not dying from it. She will be sorely missed.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1205 Dolley Madison Blvd., McLean, Va 22101. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to Salvation Army, Samaritan's Purse or Christ House-DC.

Guestbook

  1. My deepest sympathy for your loss. May you find comfort in the hope of seeing your loved one again in the resurrection. John 5:28,29

  2. My husband and I were deeply saddened to learn of Karen’s death. She was a fine person and we have very fond memories of the years she was our dog walker. (2003-2006). She also helped me with my elderly mother who had Alzheimer’s. Mother went to a day care program while my husband and I were at work. I would take her in the mornings on my way to work and Karen kindly picked her up for me. I will always remember Karen’s gentle ways and the excellent care she gave our beloved corgi, Griffin. She wrote the funniest, sweetest notes every day after she had walked him. God bless her and all of you. Sincerely, Catherine and Bob Bucknam

  3. My heart is heavy this morning as I realized that I had not received an update from Karen in some time. Karen hired me as one of her dog walkers/pet sitters. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her and kept in touch with her over the years. Karen will be remembered by me as a caring, compassionate person with never ending energy for life. She is missed this morning as I started to write her an email as I had been thinking about her for the past couple of months. God speed Karen – may you be at peace.
