Lois M. Steffensen

Departed this life on January 16, 2021. Lois was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Myra (Pickett) and Sylvester Morrison. She attended Lynn English High School and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in English from Regis College, Weston, Massachusetts. While at Regis, she met a handsome USMA cadet at a West Point dance, fell in love and married ‘Steff’ on July 2, 1950. She became an expert at creating a new home for her family in each of the seventeen locations, in the US and abroad, to which her husband was assigned throughout his career with the US Air Force.

Lois is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Janet S. Johnson (Jim), Carol S. Huff (Dave), and her son, James H. Steffensen; six grandchildren (Eric, Laura, Julie, Brian, Kelsi, Amanda); four great grandchildren (Evelyn, Ruthie, Eli, Blake); her sister-in-law Helen S. Wooge and several nieces and nephews.

Lois was predeceased by Harry R. Steffensen, her husband of thirty-one years and will be laid to rest with him at Arlington National Cemetery. A Mass and a private interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Lois was proud to have lived independently, exercising at the Vienna Community Center and volunteering at Fairfax Hospital for 25 years logging in 4,258 hours. Lois was a parishioner at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Vienna, VA since 1969 and was active with a widowers support group. She was a fan of the Red Sox and Washington National Baseball teams. She will be fondly remembered for her delicious brownies, shepherd's pie, and chocolate chip cookies. She will remain in our hearts and thoughts forever.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Scholarship Fund at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Vienna VA. Online condolences and fond memories of Lois may be offered to the family at www.moneyandking.com.

  1. I worked with Lois for 2 1/2 years at Inova Fairfax Hospital. We discharged patients from all over the campus. I always enjoyed working with her because she was cheerful, positive, and pleasant. I will miss her very much.

  2. It was my great pleasure to have known and volunteered with Lois at Inova Fairfax hospital. She will be remembered as a kind gracious person and will be missed by all who knew her. My condolences to her family on Lois’s passing. Dave Burks

  6. I am lucky to have crossed paths with Lois on many Mondays as she began her volunteer shifts at INOVA. She always had a warm smile and amazing energy. I remember the birthday celebration her daughters planned to surprise her there at the hospital. She will be missed by many. Maryann Rozzell

  7. Jolie Hair Studio We were all so sorry to hear of Lois’ passing. She was a favorite of everyone’s, all the girls at the salon would stop by to chat with her while she was here. She was always so kind and appreciative, a bright spot in my day. I will miss her …… very much. Janet Davis

  10. We live up the street from Lois and enjoyed visiting with her in the neighborhood, at our block parties, and when I often saw her at the Giant grocery store. She always looked so nice! We will miss her kind manner and friendly persona. Prayers for your loss.

  11. I volunteered with Lois at Fairfax Hospital and will remember her as a most dedicated member of our team. She had a such a sweet disposition and a calm demeanor. And a good worker; I liked to double with her when a discharge required a wheelchair and a cart. She did like her coffee though and at a 2019 Volunteer Luncheon, not a one of us at our team’s table was able to get a cup—hence this picture at the end of lunch with our clean cups. My condolences to all. May many sweet memories sustain you at this difficult time. ~Eileen Sloyan

  12. Carol – my deepest condolences to you and your family in the loss of your mom. I will always remember her smile and her quiet manner. Lynn Propst
