Margaret Beard Kohne

Margaret Julia was born to Bertha Lee Sisk and George Warren Beard on August 17, 1924 in Oakton, VA.

She attended Oakton Elementary and Fairfax High School, graduating in 1943. (Jeffrey, Jeanette and Gregory also attended there).

She became a policy writer for Aetna Insurance Company, and married Luther Branson Kohne, Jr. in September 28, 1945.

In 1947, son Jeffrey Alan was born, so it was time to be a stay at home mom. Jeanette Louise and Gregory Branson were born in 1948 and 1951 making life at home a great place to be.

Working with her mother, she learned the trade of making slipcovers and draperies. This led to her interest in Home and Commercial Interior Design. Her career took off and it became a part-time endeavor until the children were grown. Her clients ranged from homes to commercial, embassy and government offices.

When grandchildren arrived, she said “It’s time to play” so going Freelance Design became the way to go, giving her time to be with the grandchildren and becoming a Baby Sitter whenever possible – sometimes begging the parents to go out to dinner so she got the kids for an evening – Thank you, Maggie and Jeanette.

This time became an interest in our church in design, property and women’s chrismons and banner projects. She spent many years and drove many miles in the car to complete projects needed at Christ Church. In was a joyful time. She then resided in the Village at Orchard Ridge in Winchester, Virginia – a Lutheran home – a real “Cruise Ship on Land”. Her life became time for friends and fun. She moved there on April 28, 2013.

To each of you I leave a quote I saw several years ago. “Happiness is a choice. Take the love you have for me and spread it around.” That was my goal in Life.
