Mario Ronald Funari passed away on March 16, 2021. Born August 16, 1920 in Trenton, NJ to parents

Robert and Nancy Funari. Mario attended Trenton High School from 1936 to 1939. He attended Rider Community College and earned a degree in Accounting. He has a life-long passion for opera and was a member of the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Opera following his graduation in addition to beginning his career in cost accounting. Mario met Luciano Pavarotti shortly after Luciano arrived in the US and has a wonderful opportunity to share their mutual love of singing.

Mario received a number of awards during his professional career including recognition as the outstanding member of the National Association of Cost Accountants. Professor Vancil, a Harvard Business School Professor, asked our father to author a chapter of his Financial Executive Handbook in 1974. He was a member of several church choirs, including St. Dominic in Shaker Heights, Ohio where he participated in the production of a Mitch Miller album of Catholic hymns.

He is survived by his son, Robert, and daughter, Patricia as well as his grandchildren, Carla and Michael as well as his great granddaughter Kinsley. Our dad will be greatly missed by his family as well as the many people who he met during his life.

A family only interment will be held on Monday, March 22 at Fairfax Memorial Park. The online guestbook is available at www.moneyandking.com

  1. Mike and I adored Mario. He was a wonderful neighbor, friend and singer. Mike enjoyed his long financial talks with Mario. I always loved hearing about his travels and the stories about his family that he proudly told. He is in our prayers Mike and Sheila Ryan

  2. Mario was a treasured member of the choir at Vienna Presbyterian Church. His marvelous bass voice was the solid foundation for many wonderful hymns.

  3. We remember so many good times with Mario and Frances and are thankful for having known them. It’s great that he lived to be 100 but are sorry that we weren’t able to come to the celebration. We miss seeing you too, Patty. May you find peace in the many happy memories that you have.
