Nancy Litchfield Hicks

Nancy Litchfield Hicks of McLean, VA passed away on August 2nd at her home, following a courageous 6 year struggle with the neurological disease Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

Nancy was born in Danbury, CT to Robert Litchfield and Marjorie Litchfield (née Schneider) on July 9th, 1960. She was a graduate of Danbury High School, Gettysburg College, and University of Richmond School of Law. She married Harry Joseph “Hal” Hicks on August 24th, 1985 and they were happily married for nearly 35 years. After practicing law in Richmond, New York, and D.C. for 10 years, she left the legal profession in 1995 to spend more time with her children. She was a devoted wife, a dedicated mother, and a dear friend. There was never a person with a heart as pure, or a smile as warm as Nancy.

Nancy’s pride and joy was her family, whom she loved more than any of them deserved. She is survived by her husband Hal, sons Josh, Matthew, and Billy, daughter-in-law Jess, granddaughter Zoey, and sister Linn. They will all miss her terribly.

In heaven, she joins her father Robert, mother Marjorie, aunt Virginia, and father-in-law Harry.

Memorial services will be delayed until the fall in light of the current pandemic. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to CurePSP (psp.org). Additionally, the family would like to thank Maria, Mary, Tutu, and Mirabel for the love and care they showed Nancy when she needed it most.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Hal: So sorry to hear this! Loved Nancy as a smart and kind college and law school friend. Thinking of you and the boys at this time. God bless. Susan Dardes

  2. Very saddened to learn of Nancy’s death. She and Hal were classmates at TC Williams, Class of 1985. Bill remember her huge smile, her kindness and her LL Bean boat and tote full of books. She carried it back and forth between the law dorm and school all the time. May perpetual light shine upon her. Mary K. Costello

  3. It was great fun to know Nancy while we attended Gettysburg College. We were Tri Sigma sorority sisters. I’m saddened to learn of her passing. My condolences to her family. I’m sure her memory will live on in many hearts!

  4. Nancy was a wonderful and amazing person and housemate in the law dorm! I was so blessed and lucky to know her!

  5. Dear Hicks/Litchfield Family, I am so fortunate to have many lovely memories with Nancy.  Our Gettysburg years, the 17 Countries In 38 Days trip to Europe, being with the full Hicks contingent, sitting on the porch of Nancy and Hal’s room watching the sun go down in the Pacific while we raided the minibar, eating chili and watching the Cowboys win another Superbowl. Which made her happy. She usually was happy, and it was a rare time when she didn’t smile that light-up-the-room-smile of hers. It feels like there’s a hole where something used to be, and that the spot isn’t going to fill again. I’m imagining how very much larger that feels to all of you, and even though I can’t truly know how big it feels, I’m sending all the love I have for her to you. I pray that as everyone who was lucky enough to know Nancy does the same, perhaps your spots will fill a bit. I believe she is at the party you mentioned in her obituary, loving and being loved by the others who have gone before. And my father Bob, who was very fond of her, will come by to check on her, and knowing Nancy, she’ll ask him to stay. Love, Beth MacDonald
