Olga Lizama Bufill

Our beloved Olga passed away peacefully on November 11, 2022, after a long illness, in the company of her family. She was 96 years old. She was happily married to Dr. Jose A. Bufill for 60 years, who preceded her in death. In the course of her long life she lived in Spain, Cuba, Miami, Florida, Niagara Falls, New York, and since 1967, her home was in Northern Virginia. Olga and her husband loved the Washington, DC area for the culture, history, and educational opportunities.

She worked professionally as a librarian at Niagara University, the Alexandria Public Library system and for the Library of Congress, until she retired. She leaves behind her daughter, Lourdes, an attorney; her son Joe, a medical oncologist; her son in law, Lawrence Sperling, an attorney and many, beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and close lifelong friends.

Olga and Jose were an integral part of the Cuban community in the Washington, DC area and hosted lunches and parties in their home regularly for their many friends and family. She was the youngest of her five siblings, all of whom are deceased. Her extended family in the US, Spain and Mexico will miss her dearly.
