Oscar S. "Sarge" Mayers, Sr.

Oscar Summers Mayers, Sr., affectionately known as Sarge. The son of William Mayers, Sr. and Zellie Epting Mayers was born on September 23, 1930. He departed this life, November 18, 2020 in Woodridge, Virginia.

He grew up in Trenton, MS along with his five other brothers: Sidney, Nelson, William Jr., Odell, Charlie C. and one sister, Zellie Mae. His mother died when he was young and his father married Ruby Hunter who was rearing a niece, Mary Lee Moore, and two nephews, Henry Earl King and George Kersh—they all grew up as one family.

He joined Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church and attended Mossy Hill School in Trenton, MS. Oscar joined the U.S. Army at an early age, retiring after 20 years of honorable service and became a Policeman for more than 20 years of dedicated service.

He married Carolene L. Stotts and they resided in Washington D.C. He leaves to cherish his memories, three children: Oscar Mayers, Jr. (Herndon, VA), Sharon Gray (Stafford, VA), Sherl Randolph (York, PA), one-step child, Deborah, and grandchildren: Carolene, Elizabeth, Gabriel, Tyran, Precious, Ashley, Thomas, Shante, and Joseph. One step-sister, Mary Lee Moore, sisters-in law and brothers-in-law: Lena (Sidney), Katie (Nelson), Mable (Odell), Readie (William, Jr), Charlotte (Jessie), Christina (James), Ester, Doris (Richard), John (Espy), Robert (Mollie), many nieces and nephews, and others that became extended family to him.

His wife, five brothers, one sister, most sisters-in law and brothers-in-law have preceded him in death along with two beloved grandsons: Robert Joseph Mayers and Roderick M. Dunn, Jr.

We loved him, but God loves him best.

Cuz, you was all my mother said you was and more and too bad you was one of a kind I will never forget our many and wonderful days spent laughing, eating, me cooking for you every time I came to your house and us just reminiscing about home and family. You told me a lot and showed me a lot and yes, I listened. You was the king of cousins and the one everybody loved and either laughs or smiles when they hear your name. Thank you Cuz (the name we always called each other) for just being you and loving me. I will miss you and love you forever. I know you are laughing and smiling just being in paradise with all our heavenly family. You was the best cousin ever. Again, I love you cuz, don’t cut up too bad and kiss AlmaQ for me.
