P. Lynn Lanz Doran

P. Lynn Lanz Doran of McLean, VA, passed on March 16 at the age of 68. Formerly of Pittsburgh, PA. Beloved wife of 43 years of Vincent F. Doran, loving mother of Kelly Maureen Doran (Matthew Santo) of Dobbs Ferry, NY, and Sean Michael Doran (Jillian Collins) of Alexandria, VA. Devoted grandmother of Mila Doran Santo, Quinn Marie Doran, Sloane Josephine Doran, and Joseph Doran Santo. Lynn is also survived by her sisters Peg (late William) Mangan of West Mifflin, PA, Laurie Lanz of Valencia, PA, and Cathie (James) Adams of Gibsonia, PA, and by in-laws Patricia (late Ken) Boyle of Titusville, FL, David (Sharon) Doran of Hayward, CA, Barbara (John) Hill of Watsonville, CA, Paul Doran of McLean, VA, Judy (late David) Dyda of Titusville, FL, and Maribeth (John) Palermo of Lockport, NY. Lynn is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Lynn retired from the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University where she served as a Teaching Professor of Finance for 23 years. She was the first business school professor to win the Dorothy Brown Award, a university-wide award for Outstanding Teaching Achievement, having been voted by students as the best professor. Lynn was also recognized by BusinessWeek as one of the top undergraduate business professors in the country.
Family and friends are welcome on Friday, March 19 at 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Ave W, Vienna, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 20 at 2:00 at St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, 7001 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA. Lynn will be laid to rest at a private interment at Queen of Heaven in McMurray, PA. Donations to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance are suggested (https://ocrahope.org/).

Professor Doran was one of the finest professors I had at Georgetown – truly exemplifying the amazing and unique Georgetown experience. She was an absolute subject matter expert, had the utmost integrity, and cared deeply about her students. I am honored to have her as part of my education and life. My sincerest condolences to the family and other friends. She certainly will never be forgotten by the thousands of students that benefited from her teaching. Moreover, the positive ripple effects throughout the global financial industry cannot be overstated. Thank you, Professor Doran!
Professor Doran was the best professor I ever had during my 4 years at Georgetown. I am so sorry to hear of her passing – a true loss to the Georgetown community and all the students who’s lives she touched. Sending love and thoughts to all of her friends and family ❤️
Professor Doran was an exceptional professor and I have very fond memories of her during my time at Georgetown. She made a difference in the lives of many students and encouraged them to excel. Professor Doran was generous and kind and will be dearly missed. My sincerest condolences to her family and friends – she was an outstanding member of the Georgetown community.

My condolences to the Doran family. Professor Doran was truly an inspiring and impactful person. I had the pleasure of taking multiple classes taught by Professor Doran while studying at Georgetown. Professor Doran had a passion for Finance and was gifted at sharing that knowledge with others in an easy to understand way. Professor Doran’s confidence was inspiring. She greatly impacted my education and was influential in igniting my interest and career in Finance. Professor Doran will be deeply missed! Vince, Kelly and Sean, I am so deeply saddened on the passing of Lynn. My heart breaks for you all. I have such fond memories of her (and you all) from our time living in Pittsburgh.
