Richard Gerald Stallings of Oak Hill, Virginia passed away on June 14, 2019 after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. Richard was born on August 21, 1947 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Gerald and Odell Stallings. He is survived by his wife Dolores, daughters Katherine Scott (Thomas) of Oak Hill, Virginia and Kimberly Suringa (Dirk) of McLean, Virginia, and grandsons Christopher, Carter, and Thomas Scott and John and William Suringa.

Rich attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute before enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After studying Vietnamese at the Defense Language Institute, he served as an Airborne Intercept Processing Specialist and flew over 100 combat missions. Rich received commendations for his service from the President of the United States and Commander of the Air Force. When he left the Air Force, he completed his education at Old Dominion University and became a CPA. His long audit career was with Department of the Navy, KPMG, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Rich was a devoted family man, and his five grandsons were the joy of his life. He loved God and his country. An avid outdoorsman, he spent time fishing and hunting and looked forward to his trips to the mountain cabin. Rich enjoyed reading, writing, genealogy, antiquing, and American history. He was a fan of the Capitals, the Nationals, and UVA basketball. Rich was a member of the American Legion J. Edgar Hoover Memorial Post 56 of the District of Columbia, of which he was Post Commander for two years. He was also involved in the Sons of the Revolution and the American Institute of CPAs.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint John Neumann Catholic Church, 11900 Lawyers Road, Reston, Virginia. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 a.m., and a reception will follow the mass. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, National Wildlife Federation, or the charity of your choice.
