Thomas Freeland Fricke, Jr., age 40, of Vienna, VA passed away on August 28, 2021. Beloved son of Rosanne Jones and Thomas Fricke, beloved stepson of Michael D. Jones; beloved brother of Kate Temple-West, loving brother-in-law to Aresh Javadi, and cherished friend to many. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 7 at 2 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, guests may RSVP via the Money and King Funeral Home website. Interment to follow at Andrew Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to So Others May Eat (some.org). I am so sorry for your loss.
I attended the New School with Tom for a number of years. I remember him as a kind young man. I am so very very sorry for this tragic loss and we are holding your family in love and light. Christina Sanchez Alvarez
A candle was lit for the decedent.
I’d been in and out of FPA since 1994, learning media production from analog on up. When I met Tom, he was teaching my producers refresher course. He was fun and tried to keep it interesting. When I first learned about Bad Driving Chicken, I understood it was a spin off of another idea at FPA that never really took root. I watched a few episodes on line and thought about ways I might be able to contribute and Tom was happy to allow me the opportunity to participate. I can’t tell you how many BDC Stories I did, but I know I had the usual fun, frustration, and affection for and with everyone who worked on the show. Tom helped me with production for Animals Alive, the show I produced at FPA, and also helped me with some footage for my business. When covid rolled around, he and I were down on the Mall on March 15, 2020 shooting useless goofy stuff in the drained reflecting pool. My biggest regret is Tom is always behind the lens in every shot. Still, it’s great to hear the sound of his voice. In May of 2020 my beloved canine companion of 15 years passed away and Tom was right there with compassion and understanding, explaining that now Yuengling (my dog) would have Tom’s cat to play with across the Rainbow Bridge. This is the reason I chose the dog paw memento. The last time I saw Tom he came by my home to pick up a crab puppet for an episode he’d produced in early June of this year. I wish I had seen that episode. We will miss the mad genius behind lens who gave us so much to remember. And Tom has Yueng and Twix to keep him company. Thanks for everything, Tom, we will never forget you.
I remember Tom from the time he was a young ‘un known to all as “TomTom”. Years later, I became his teacher at The New School and made the mistake of welcoming him on the first day of class by that nickname. He was not amused! I was so glad to get the opportunity to interact with him as his teacher, not just as his friend’s mom. He had one of the most interesting minds in a class replete with interesting minds — always engaged and engaging, thought-provoking and challenging. He will be in my thoughts for the rest of my life.
Tom was very knowledgable regarding tv production. Donnie directed several episodes of Bad Driving Chicken. David played several characters on the show. Tom helped with our show “Around Space” and he also helped with another show we worked on called “Lift High the Cross”. Tom had also started attending the monthly Zoom meetings of DC-L5, the local chapter of the National Space Society. Tom is going to be greatly missed. Our deepest sympathy to his family in their loss.
I knew him from my appearances on Bannister Banter as Chef Sal Minella and many guest spots. He was always professional and friendly to me, and I’ll miss him.

I met Tom many years ago at FPA. He was always offering to crew on a show. I was heartbroken to hear of his passing. My condolences to all of his family. I’m sure I can speak for all members of FPA who knew him that he will truly be missed.
